Hi Snorkie, I thought I'd add my bit if thats ok!! I live in Gloucestershire and am about 45mins to an hour away from Stratford upon Avon. It is the lovliest place to visit and especially see Shakespeare. In the summer it can be full of tourists but you also get to see things you wouldnt at other times like street entertainers and even those people that dress up as statues until someone gets close and gets the pants scared off them!! In the autumn (fall) it can be especially beautiful by the river with all the trees changing colour. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it can be beautiful over here at any time of year but as Clairews6 has said the weather is very unpredictable. Mind you that can be true of spring and summer as well as autumn and winter!!!!! Whenever you decide to come and visit us I hope you have a wonderful time and enjoy all you see.

Hey Snorkie! I just got back from London about a month ago. We went in mid August and everyone told us summer was the best time to go since the weather would be warm and beautiful. It ended up raining most of the time! But, I know that England was experiencing more rainfalls this year than it has in ages!

Bottom line: bring a purse-sized umbrella no matter what time of year you go

You definitely have to check out the Royal Shakespeare Company! We did it while we were there. Saw a production of the Merchant of Venice and it was just amazing!! Get your tickets well in advance though. I'd say a few weeks if you want prime seats. We got ours a week in advance and our seats were okay, but not the greatest.
