Anyone who has been on birth control, do you remember how long it took for the side effects to go away? I've had nausea all day today, even though I took my first pill last night before bed. I can deal with it, but I would just like an idea for when it might subside Thanks!

I had side effects for only a couple of days after i first started taking bc. it made me throw up and everything. it was wretched. but it didn't last too long!
i hope you feel better soon, as your body adjusts to the pill!

Should you be having side effect with the BC pill? I think you should let your GYN know, unless he/she told you to expect side effects. I'm not on BC anymore but when I was back in '93 - '98, I was on Orthocept 28 day. That probably doesn't even exist anymore.

I'm curious about the new BC that gives you only 4 periods a year. I would never take them only because I don't think it's natural to have only 4 periods a year.

Good luck!

I can't take bc pills. They give me bleeding and headaches every day of the month. Since the age of 14, I've taken all the orthos and the mini pill, but it seems like the estrogen was too much for me.

I'm on the depo shots now and haven't gotten a period, cramps or endo since Aug '99. It's been the best thing ever.

Good luck, and I hope your side effects go away!

I'm on my third day of BC and the nausea seems to be subsiding.

... when you're on any type of BC pill, you're really not having a period because you're not ovulating. You're just having withdrawal bleeding. The pill is designed to try to match your "natural" cycle, which is why there's three weeks of pills and one week of no pills. The week of no pills, you're having withdrawal from the lack of hormones, which causes bleeding.

Until a few weeks ago, I had been taking BC continuously for two years, and hadn't had a single "period" during that time. It was great, and I felt great, too!!
