IBS or food intolerance?

I am really at my wits end. For the past few years, I have had certain foods cause gastric symtoms (dairy, wheat, soy). If I ate too much of the food, I would have "D". Also, I would have "diaper rash"...which is fine for my 8 month old...but for me, a bit embarrassing.
I have scheduled an appt. with a gastro specialist..but am really trying to figure things out. Lately, my symptoms range from severe...to moderate. I can eat ice cream...no issues...but then I ate some carrots raw..next day I was running for the bathroom.
Now, I get abdomen pains, feel like when I go to the bathroom...that I could still go afterward....some days I feel fine, next day...I don't feel like eating anything...and I just don't feel well.
Any suggestions? Does this sound like IBS?

I understand your confusion. I think your problems could be IBS but it's good that you're going to see a doctor to get the necessary tests. It's interesting that you can have ice cream though - but everybody's different. Just remember that IBS symptoms don't necessarily come right after a meal but can come later too, like the day after. Raw carrots are too tough to digest for some people with IBS. Try cooking them or finely grating them.

As Ulrika said, you need to get all the tests done, including a colonoscopy, for your doctor to determine if you have IBS. If he or she doesn't want to run the tests, try to find another one that will. It would be a good idea to stay away from all trigger foods including dairy. It can take a day or two before symptoms appear, and it may not be a "bang, it's there" kind of symptom, but it can be one that slowly keeps on making you not feel well.
Good luck.
