I am just now starting birth control pills (getting married in March!!!!) and I was wondering if the pill can cause problems with IBS. I have been gradually and successfully healing from constipation problems, and my friend has IBS-d--she said that the pill made her IBS worse. Anybody have any advice/feedback/etc?

I was stable, then I took BC pills, and it made my IBS worse. I'm still not feeling 100% better and I stopped taking them about 8 months ago. I'm an IBS A and it gave me a lot of D, pain, and anxiety. I'll never take them again...make the guy wear a condom.
On the flipside though, there are others here who have said BC pills have helped their IBS. It may be an individual thing. Just watch out if you start getting D, and monitor your anxiety level.

I'm IBS-C, and I think the pill made my C a little better. I'm on NuvaRing now, and I'm more stable yet. It helps to have the hormones absorbed outside the gastrointestinal system.

I will say that changing birth control does tend to get me somewhat less stable for a month or two, but it's not a major effect. I've just been sure to not cheat on the diet and get enough sleep and exercise during those times.

It's different for everyone but it generally seems to help people. It helps my symptoms quite a lot.

I can't take the pill - too many side affects! But I do have an iud with progesterone. It is FANTASTIC!! No more cramping and no periods! It's a dream come true for me. It all depends on the person of course!
