First I would just like to say that I remember when my Christmas list used to be "fun" stuff like a CD walkman, jewelery, engagement ring...

This year I want:

A Dustbuster! I really can't think of much else which really scares the crap out of me! I can't think of anything else I could possibly want? YIKES! LOL

What's on all your lists?

I would like a warm jacket--i am super sensative to the cold. I went to try on some today, but I was shocked at how much they cost! I really liked how the North Face ones felt... until I saw the price tag, haha!

I also want some new pants. And definitely a tea pot w/ the a place for the tea leaves.

I am pretty simple. How about you guys?

it doesn't get that cold.
What part of Austin do you live?
We lived there for three years between 1998-2001. We lived in Cedar Park and really miss it. If I didn't get use to having family around again we would move back. My kids still talk about the fun things we did.

My husband finds a job. Money is getting very tight right now and it is scary. The main problem is he won't take any job - still looking for the perfect one.

Personally, I want a pair of PJ's with the feet in them.

I would like a new crock pot since my husband decided to get rid of mine. And a new "Swatch." Yes they still make them and yes I am a geek who still collects them!

Well, we don't give gifts for Chanukah...

I just want a day with my hubby. The two of us. I don't care where we are or what we do...as long as it's together! I miss him terribly!

I just bought my hubby a jacket for his b-day! It was originally $150 and we got it on sale for $71. We had been given a gift certificate for our b-days combined (we're both Nov. b-days), so I spent my share on him! I'm so thrilled he has the jacket he needs! It's a Weatherproof jacket and it's great for bike riding in the rain sine it repells water--plus it keeps him warm! How much were the jackets you were looking at? It's ABSURD how much jackets cost.......

Happy Tuesday!

I'm the same way as our good friend Shanna! I needed a jacket in Florida...which is where I'm from originally....and I used to wear sweatshirts to school everyday since the AC was blasting to who knows what! Btw, I hear in TX it actually can get pretty cold...and even snow! Is this true Shanna?

Barb, what kind of fun things did you in TX? I've always wanted to visit there...what's it like?

P.S. How's nursing going for you these days? You're in my thoughts!!!

The other night it got down to 25! brrr! But I am sure it will be 75 again in a week. Austin weather is sporatic, but it can get very cold. Also, I will be in Madrid all winter, which is pretty dern chilly... so i will definitely need to purchase a jacket. To top it all off, I am a BIG sissy, so when the weather drops below 60, I complain.

Barb -- Austin IS fun, I agree! I love the greenbelt, shoal creek, town lake, whole foods, central market, zilker park (the lights and tree are fun!), great restaurants, the laid back people, good music venues, and (of course)-- UT! I live right by campus, across from Trudy's. Nevertheless, I would take loved ones over Austin anyday. Home is truly where the heart is.

Ruchie -- do all orthodox Jews not give presents for the holidays? The b-day jacket sounds nice... I bet you got a lot of joy from giving it to him! I am like that, too... I would rather give then get!

Wow Shanna it already got down to 25 degrees!! Yes that is cold and I do remember some of those cold days. Zilker park was one of our favorite places to take our boys. They looked forward to the train ride.

Our favorite date night was at the Oasis. I miss Whole Foods and the Central Market at lunch time. What I miss the most is how friendily people are.

Ruchie Texas can get cold and snow, but usually in the Panhandle (northeast Texas). Austin doesn't get snow, but does get freezing rain. My oldest son's preschool brought in a large pile of snow every winter for the kids to play in.

Ruchie thanks for asking about Nursing School. After completing my CNA class I am now on a one and half year waiting list to get into Nursing School - thanks to budget cuts.

I applied for CNA positions at two hospitals in my area and one hospital has a "Nurse of the Future Program", which will pay 100% of my schooling. It will cost around $10,000.00 for a two year RN program. It will great to be debt free.

I heard on the radio this morning that you aren't supposed to vaccuum up pine needles? I don't know why...but I think they said it makes it stink?

I really am not sure how you are supposed to get rid of the pine needles then...they never got to that part...But just a little FYI for ya! LOL

They do stink - but it's worth it to get those darn needles up! LOL The windows will probably already be open since the guys are going to be lugging the Christmas tree up the stairs and setting it up (they don't know this yet.. LOL).. and they always reek of cigarette smoke.

Thanks for the reminder about opening the windows though!

At least all of you want something! I'm only 19, and my parents asked me what I wanted for Christmas... I told them I didn't want anything. They give me so much already-- not to get all sentimental and mushy... but they're always giving me tons of love and support, their time, all their energy... especially with this whole IBS thing-- it's been one thing after another. I jokingly told them I already got my present (a colonoscopy)... ha... I think they were a bit surprised at that answer. I asked for Heather's book.

I honestly don't want anything... is anyone else with me on this? I keep thinking-- when I actually NEED something, I know they'll get it for me, but why should I get a present just to get one-- and not trying to get too religious for anyone, but why do I get a gift on someone else's birthday (he he he)?

I guess I am going to Florida for Christmas-- I get to hang with my bro (24) and parents. It's going to be a blast.

So, what do I get my 24 year old brother? Without telling you about his personality, it's pry hard, but hey, just throw some stuff out there!

Chanukah is not a gift giving holiday. If some people give gifts to their children it has nothing to do with the holiday and its meaning. If you want to know more about gift giving at Chanukah, check out this link:

the program that pays for your schooling sounds wonderful! you'll get experience... get paid for it... and then get paid to earn more (essentially)... awesome!

you and i like the same things about austin!

btw, it snowed here last winter. just for two days. the whole city shut down. it was grand!!!!!!

best,
shanna

P.S. What does CNA stand for? Also, have you ever considered becoming a nurse practictioner? Are there jobs that will pay for you to go back to nurse practitioner school? Just curious...

Hi Shanna,
CNA stands for Certified Nursing Assistant. It may not be the most appealing job, but it is very rewarding. I've been told the best RN's started as CNA's. During my Clinicals I became attached to a few patients and still visit them every week.

No, I don't want to go back to school to become a Nurse Practictier - requires more schooling. Next semester I'm working on my Phlebotomy Certificate.

I do take back my comment that Austin doesn't get snow! Also it doesn't surprise me the city shut down. Austin people do not know how to drive in bad weather, LOL
I figured that out my first winter in Austin driving on ice. Yikes - it was SCARY. Shanna, no offense taken? Right?

BTW, do you grow up in Austin? What are you studying in school?

No offense taken! You are completely right... not only can Austinites not drive in snow and ice, I often think we can't drive, PERIOD. I grew up in The Wooldands... North of Houston. This is my third year at UT; I am graduating in May; I am studying history and Spanish... and studying abroad in Madrid, Spain in the spring. Counseling, writing, marketing, Nursing, and law are some fields that I am considering pursing.

What is crazy a/b Austin weather is that it is SOOO inconsistent. One day it's cold, the next it's warm. Of course, the seasons don't really change here. But, areas of the hill country are quite lovely year round!

Being a CNA sounds cool! What did you study in school?
