Hi all. I'm pretty new to this board and the information shared by all the members is fantastic! I see myself in some of your stories. It makes my IBS-D a bit less isolating.

Anxiety is the main issue for me. I literally work myself into a frenzy whenever I have to leave the house. I'm usually able to get myself out the door (fully medicated), and the anxiety does lessen as I get into the car and on my way to wherever I'm headed. I am currently listening to Michael's CD's and have noticed that the pain that formerly was debilitating is now quite manageable. Now if I could only get the anxiety under control.

I mentioned anxiety to my GI during my last visit. His reply was that I needed to "get inside my own head" and stop focusing on the IBS so much. Helpful, isn't he!

I've read a lot about buspar and the success some of you have achieved while on it. Which type of doctor should I approach about this? GI, GP, Psychologist?

Sorry for the long post... thanks for listening :-)

Maria

Don't know if this will help, but my PsyDoc gave me Xanax for anxiety and it WIPED OUT the IBD. No pain, no gas, no diarrhea. I can eat or drink anything, though I still do better without dairy and with a low-fat diet.

The one problem that I have (besides the fact it's supposed to be addictive) is that your motivation goes as well. You're just not going to be very upset about missing a deadline, etc.

I've read online that Xanax is pretty commonly prescribed for IBD, so it might be something to look into. You might be able to talk to your GI or GP about it, if you don't want to go to a PsyDoc.

I don't use it all the time, but it's really helped me get some perspective on some crazy situations. And it's so nice to have the confidence that I can go from doubled-over to completely normal within eight pr so hours.

Do you have IBS-D or IBD? IBD is Inflammatory Bowel Disease, not the same as IBS.
