Her surgery went well last Friday. No major complications, her hubby reported. I haven't heard from her yet, but hope to soon!

Thanks for posting for me Jules! 1 week post surgery and I'm finally able to get up long enough to sit at the computer. It's been a pretty tough week, but today is definitely the best day so far. I'm just taking it one day at a time. No complications during surgery. Hopefully once my body gets back on track things will work smoothly. My goal for today is to stand up long enough to take a shower. It's amazing what little things we take for granted when we're feeling well...like being strong enough to wash ourselves. I still have a long way to go, but hopefully the worst is over. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers!

Whatever you do....DON'T LUNGE FOR THE SOAP! It's not worth the pain!

How long did it take for your bowels to function ok? Mine are not working too well yet. I know it's only been a week, but my stomach is so puffed out that I look like I'm pregnant. Normally my stomach is very flat. I was just curious how long it took for things to move easily?

Glad to hear things went well Mary! I know about appreciating the little things! What I do (and am doing) for showering - because I can't stand on my right foot and I have to bag it before I shower - I have a plastic stool in the shower to sit on. I put a face cloth on top so it isn't so rough on my tush. I put all my shampoo etc within reach and I sit in the shower. I'm worried about falling over and hurting my foot more than it already is. Like Avidan said - it's not worth the pain lunging for the soap!
Best of luck for a speedy recovery!

Glad to hear that surgery went well and there weren't any complications. It does take time to heal and we never expect to be so incapacitated. I don't know if it is because they move everything around inside or they pump you up with gas to better visualize stuff, but after abdominal surgery the belly is puffed for some time. It will go down. And it takes time for the colon to get going again. That was pretty intensive surgery you had!
Sending love, hugs and healing thoughts.

Define "normally"...if you mean that it all seems to come out sludgy or mushy, that took almost 2-3 weeks to deal with. Granted, that may be due to the Miralax my doc had me on, but you'll see some puffiness for a while. Give it a few weeks.

Thanks all for your great replies. It's nice to hear that some of the things I'm going through are normal. It is very good to be home. I was in the hospital for 5 days. I could have stayed longer if I wanted, but it was just so lonely sleeping in the hospital. Each day I see a little improvement. And my body is slowly starting to function better. I'll be very glad when the puffy stomach goes away. I look like I'm pregnant right now :P But I know it's not actual fat/weight since I weigh less now than before surgery. I guess I need to keep eating Thanks again for your encouragement. Hopefully I'll be back posting more frequently as I recover. I get a month off of work!!!! Yea!!!!!
Oh, and I did manage to take a shower. Boy was I in pain by the time I was done. I barely made it back down the stairs to my nest on the couch. I took Toady's advice and had my husband get a stool. That made things much easier today. Thanks for the suggestion!!

Quite welcome
Oh, and you are right about the weight loss; I was 10 pounds lighter after surgery and I have no idea if I've gained it back yet.

Hi Mary!
I'm so glad you're on the mend. A month off of work is just what you need to clear your head and get some rest!! I wanted to ask-- how big (long) was your prolapse? Was it constantly "out," or only when you strained?
Big hugs, and continued support for your recovery!

Hi Nelly,
Thanks for the hugs. I am definitely excited about a month off of work. I honestly don't know how big my prolapse was. It wasn't constantly out. It came out pretty much every time I went to the bathroom...straining or not. So it was pretty bad. And if I was really straining it came out quite a bit. I think it was "full thickness prolapse." Just from what I felt, it seemed like the size of a baseball at least when it came out. Do you think you might have one?

Wow a baseball is pretty big. I have what you might call a "blossom." It is gone most of the time and re-emerges only when I am C and strain. I've only been puking C 2ce in my life, and both times have been from side effects from meds. That is when It pokes out, only to retreat back on its own within a few minutes.
I don't think mine is operable for now. Yours sounds very dramatic!! I'm glad you found the help you needed.
Thanks for the info, and sorry to the others if this was too much information!!

I watched "Mona Lisa Smile" because we had it recorded off of tv. But that's all. Just junky daytime tv right now At least I'm finally able concentrate on books and projects. So I don't have to be occupied by tv all the time.
