I remember Nelly saying she did diflucan for a month for a yeast overgrowth. My stool sample came back with way high yeast levels. Did you notice any improvement after doing the month of diflucan?
I've done some home treating of vaginal yeast infections recently and before this year, I'd only ever had one other yeast infection in my life. Google says over growth of yeast can cause D, tiredness, weakness, migraines and a whole list of other problems I am having, including arthritis! Now, I don't think this is the magic answers to everything but it can't be helping anything either! Anyone have any imput or experience here?

I took a pill a day of diflucan over a month to combat a wide-spread yeat problem. I had asthma attachs for the first 6 days, which went away with an inhaler. I finished off the rest of the month feeling medicine-y, but no other side-effects to report.

look it up and see what you think, it is a natural and effective way to get rid of candida, it just takes a lot longer, but it is gentler and natural, the main catch is that the anticandida diet is basically an anti heather diet as it cuts out all refined grains, all sugars and high sugar fruits and fermented foods like mushrooms,so it would be a360, but if it is yeast, and systemic candida is very difficult to get rid of diflucan or not, the diet is important for a few months. the kit contains 4 products that kill, bind, and flush the body of yeasts, then replenish with probiotics. just a thought. BUt crohns could also explain a ton of your symptoms since it caused malabsorption and all sorts of nutritional deficeiencies which cause all sorts of other problems. good luck at the doc.

Well, well, well... this is wonderful to read, that others are finding out about this yeast/fungus causing some of our problems...exactly what I have been trying to tell people on this IBS site, that a lot of their problems may be a fungus, and I even mentioned a specific diet which closely mirrors the one on the 'yeast busters' site. It is an antifungal diet. If you want to save some money..the 70 dollars mentioned on the site, you can follow the diet and take olive leaf extract(an antifungal), less than 10 dollars a bottle. However, sometimes it is good to use a program because you are more apt to take all supplements correctly. I know it is against Heather's diet, as already mentioned by the above postee, but it is the only way to get rid of the fungus, as the yeast busters website alludes to. I have had "terrific" results following the same kind of diet written in a book by a fungal researcher named Doug Kaufmann.(you can google him to if you like) Good luck!

Yes, I did read about the anti yeast diets. I have been trying to cut out sugar and eat brown rice and whole wheat pasta instead of white stuff. Its on my list of questions to ask the specialist today. Even if he doesn't want to treat it, I'm still going to get the supplements for it because even if its not my "main" problem, its certainly can't be helping anything either!
I see the crohns guy at 1, I'll be sure to post an update!

Taking probiotics regularly really helps with the yeast overgrowth too.

I went to the whole foods health store and bought a huge bottle of yeast cleanse, you take 6 nasty tasting pills a day! I also bought the good probiotics in the refrigerator so we will see if it improves anything. It certainly can't hurt anything! I already take a mound of pills a day, whats another 10 pills or so?!

Kim123,
I am concerned about how you have misrepresented what was said on the thread where I responded to you about your statement on this subject. In the original exchange we had about it, you did not say "some"--you said "all."
http://www.helpforibs.com/messageboards/ubbthreads/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=diet&Number=276167&page=&view=&sb=5&o=&vc=1
You stated rather plainly in that post that you believe (incorrectly, according to Heather's information) that *all* cases of IBS are, in reality, a yeast problem. I objected to--and still object to--you making statements which seem to conflate IBS and yeast overgrowth, because they are not the same syndrome.
I have never stated that yeast problems could not exist *concurrently* with IBS. If someone might *also* have yeast problems, I'm sure your suggestions would be helpful.
Yeast problems can be tested for (as Michele has illustrated), and *should* be tested for, in order to arrive at a valid diagnosis of IBS. If Diflucan clears up someone's bowel problems, that is great--but that is not IBS. Low-sugar diets and Diflucan are NOT effective for IBS--they are effective for yeast problems, if the tests say you have one.
I think your "snarkiness" is uncalled for, especially since you are misrepresenting the original conversation(s). Shame on you.
I apologize if I'm offending others on the board by continuing to address this, but I feel that if I'm being misrepresented, I should not have to let that pass by unanswered. We all want to be getting the most accurate information possible. I also want to be corrected if I say something that's wrong. Thanks in advance for your understanding.

Hi GaiasSong, Just wanted to let you know I am not trying to sabotage anyone or any view points here. The initial posting you are referring to did not even mention the word "yeast". I said "sugar" is one of the causes of our problems, (and I believe that...my opinion)then went on to clarify myself so as not to offend or confuse anyone, that if people did not feel better after following the IBS diet, "perhaps" they didn't have only IBS, but could be a yeast problem. I even said that sugar can be a cause of overgrowth of yeast and clearly made a note to say that I didn't mean "IBS". I'm unclear of what your point is here. Maybe I just don't get it. In no way have I said that IBS is a yeast thing. I'm saying that if you are still having problems with your gut after trying to follow an IBS diet, it may be worth looking into other possibilitis. By the way, there is no usual test done to test for fungus. In other words, doctors don't order those tests genreally in lab work. Also, you can not "see" fungus in a body, so a lot of times it is misdiagnosed. Please... I am not saying IBS is the same thing. I believe it is an entity unto itself. I am not saying y'all have a fungus Take care, Kim
