August 7 I will be undergoing my surgery. It's a lot later than I would like and it's cutting my NY plans very close, but if that's the earliest they can do it, by golly I'll do it.

That's great. Waiting for doctors/appts./surgery is a pain. Do you know any details about the surgery...what they do, how long recovery will be? I have my first appt. with a colon surgeon on Tuesay.

Sure, here's what I know. The procedure will be a "sigmoid colon reduction" where they will take out the "floppy" part of my colon which is the prolapse. Then, they will attach the rest of my colon back together.
The process is being done laproscopically, which cuts down recovery time. I think I'll be in the hospital about 3 days then I'll be at home recovering for 2 weeks. In contrast, an open procedure (i.e. major incision into the stomach) is a week in the hospital and 4 weeks post.
I'd be glad to help you with any other info you need.

Thanks!! I still don't even know if that's what I have, but if I do I'm sure I will have questions. We'll see what the doctor says on Tuesday (8-1). I'm nervous. I hope nothing is painful, and I hope it's a good doc that actually listens. In my experience they tend to ignore young people..."you look healthy". Who cares how old I am...I need help! Anyway, I'm happy for you that you're finally getting this taken care of. I hope you have a quick recovery and that things function normally after the surgery. Keep us updated.
