After having my annoying defecogram (which I must remember to write about) on Wednesday, I had an appointment today with my surgeon (the 2nd one, the guy who does laproscopy) on the assumption that I was going to finally get a date on when my surgery would be.

Guess what? Didn't happen.

Doctor comes in, says that he didn't get the images he wanted from the defecogram. He gives me this look, so I say "I hope you're not building up to say that I need another one of those tests." He said, "no, because I actually got everything I needed from the barium enema" which means that I may not have ever really NEEDED the defecogram. Errrr.

So then he says that surgery should be fine. I start getting ready to talk surgery dates, but then he says "So now all I have to do is get my office to coordinate with [the office of the first surgeon I went to] to get a mutual date since he's the lead"

Wait, what? Coordinate with HIS (first surgeon) office? I thought this guy (2nd surgeon) was gonna do it himself, or at least be the lead guy. Now my first surgeon is the lead? Plus, this guy (the 2nd surgeon) says that he can probably do it within 2 weeks, but that could mean the end of next week for all I know. Wasn't I supposed to have this dealt with THIS WEEK?!?!

So I walked over to my first surgeon's office (it's the adjoining building, luckily) to schedule the surgery, except he was in surgery and not in the office. I called his secretary and left a message that I needed to schedule surgery, blah blah blah.

Then my mother who was with me asked "Did [the 2nd surgeon] say that [the first surgeon] is the lead? I thought [the 2nd surgeon] was the lead." So I walked BACK to the 2nd surgeon's office to talk to him and get it clarified. The conclusion, after a lot of discussion, was that the 1st surgeon is the lead, the 2nd surgeon is assisting, and the 2nd surgeon wasn't asked to take the lead by the first surgeon; rather, the 2nd surgeon was supposed to consult about the potential complications of the surgery. Therefore, the 1st surgeon will still do it laproscopically but the 2nd surgeon (the laproscopic specialist and chair of the laproscopic department) will assist. Confused yet? Because I sure am.

The 1st surgeon is supposed to get back to me in the next day or so to come up with a date. I am SO annoyed, I just want this over with and I want to do SOMETHING to SOMEONE (or more specifically, 2 someones ) Sigh.

Hey,

Man, that's rough! That sounds sooooo infuriating! I would have be "hopping" mad by the time I'd been through all that!
I can't believe how useless medical professionals can be, grrrr.
I am also sorry you had to go through tests you didn't even need - that really sucks!
You poor thing, I hope that they get their "Stuff" together soon and get you all straightened out.
I'll keep my fingers crossed that they actually get back to you and get you in as soon as possible!

Keep us updated!

Steph

That sucks. Doctors can be so frustrating.

I have an appt. next Tuesday to see a colon/rectal surgeon. This is my first appt. I am wondering if I have some kind of prolapse...that's what you have, right? What tests did the Dr. do to diagnose you? Could he tell right away from a basic "exam"? I'm super nervous about going, but I also can't wait because I want some help! I hope I get a good surgeon who knows what he's talking about and can figure out if there is something wrong. Is there anything your Dr. recommended for you to do until surgery...any specific way to eat, etc.? Do you know any details about the surgery...recovery time, etc.? Thanks for any info. I'm pretty clueless about this, but am hoping a surgeon will be able to help.
