I'm so tired of being nervous all the time about everything. Does anyone NOT get nervous every day? If so, how do you do it? I wasn't like this when I was on medication, but now that I'm off, I'm nervous all the time. I hate it. I really don't want to go back on the meds until I find out whether or not the acupuncture and herbs are going to work. So far no major changes, but I can notice little improvements. I just don't know if I have the patience to stick this out I have another 5 months of acupuncture sessions to go through. I know there are people worse off than I with other diseases and problem, but sometimes I just can't take this anymore.

...I'm on medication. I know, that wasn't helpful at all - I'm sorry!
What helped me before I started taking the meds was seeing a therapist for some self-help techniques that I was supposed to do immediately when I felt panic coming on. Surprisingly, it really did work - immediately! But I have other problems going on, not just IBS-related anxiety, so ultimately meds are the best choice for me.
Maybe see what a therapist can do? Mine was a specialist in PTSD and anxiety disorders, and she taught me how to manage the panic attacks on the very first visit, so...

I have no advice either, sorry. I've tried several times to go off the AD and just can't do it. I think some people just have chemical imbalances and sometimes drugs are necessary. I'd rather not take them either but my quality of life goes down so much when I don't, thats its just not worth it.

I couldn't possibly explain it... I don't think anybody could. I'd have to actually show you. It involves tapping different parts of your body (hands, face, chest) in a certain order, a certain number of times, and repeating a mantra over and over, and hopefully someone else will recognize this and post what it's *called*, because I can't remember. It's a widely-used technique for dealing with panic attacks. And it actually does work - it intercepts the "panic" signal to your brain, and forces it to focus elsewhere.
Although, if what you're experiencing is more like CONSTANT anxiety and nervousness, rather than episodes or periods of it, it might not work as well. Mine was constant, and a problem I've had since childhood, which is why I went on meds - and am perfectly happy to never go off them!

I get nervous taking pills too. I HATE taking them. Only if I absolutely have to take them do I. I'll pop it in then worry for the first hr if I'm going to react. It's an awful phobia. I don't take any pills for my anxiety. I'd worry they'd give me side effects! I guess us "worriers" can't help to worry about almost EVERYTHING! Heck I bought that Activia Yogurt yesterday when I went grocery shopping and I looked it up online and now I'm afraid to eat it. #1 cause it's a milk product and I don't do well with milk or icecream. (Cheese is ok but not the other dairy products!)#2 I read in the narrative that it helps quicken the food digestion which is not what I want since I'm D! Ughhhhhh the things we go through having IBS

I take homeopathic stuff, gelseminium and ignatia. Works, too. Otherwise, yes I do get a wee bit o the nerves, especially around strangers/at work.
