Brad and Angelina had their baby today in Africa. Go team Jolie!!

LOS ANGELES - The baby has arrived — and no, they didn't name her Brangelina.

Thousands of miles from Hollywood but still within easy reach of celebrity hype, Angelina Jolie gave birth to Brad Pitt's daughter Saturday in Africa, Pitt's publicist announced.

"The night of May 27, 2006 in Namibia, Africa, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt welcomed their daughter Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt. No further information is being given," publicist Cindy Guagenti said in a statement.

No photographs were being released, she added.

The baby's arrival had been the subject of intense press speculation in recent months, prompting the superstar couple to decamp to Africa for privacy. It escalated Tuesday when an e-mail Pitt sent to the Cannes Film Festival said he was unable to attend because of the baby's "imminent arrival."

The birth came a little more than a month after another blockbuster delivery: a girl born to Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.

Jolie and Pitt had powerful help protecting their privacy from the government of Namibia, which refused to grant entry to reporters seeking to cover the birth without the actors' written permission. The government arrested photographers, confiscated film, ringed the couple's hotel with heavy security and set up large green barriers on the beach to shield their family.

Jolie and Pitt were linked romantically shortly after appearing together in the 2005 movie "Mr. and Mrs. Smith."

Jolie, 30, is a frequent visitor to Africa and serves as goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees.

Jolie has two adopted children: toddler Zahara, from Ethiopia, and 4-year-old Maddox, from Cambodia.

Both had their surnames legally changed to Jolie-Pitt after Pitt announced his intentions to co-adopt the children.

Pitt and actress Jennifer Aniston divorced last fall.

Jolie, who won an Oscar for her supporting role in 1999's "Girl, Interrupted," is divorced from Billy Bob Thornton and Jonny Lee Miller.

I dunno... Shiloh seems pretty close to really popular names like Hannah or Montana etc without being super trendy to me. It seems like a nice compromise between unique and super common (unlike say, Apple, or Moxie Crimefighter).

I give them credit for having a private birth and keeping the reporters out of their faces.I always hated it when reporters hounded celebrity parents w/ newborns.Yes, they are in the spotlight, but when it comes to private family matters i just wish the press would back off, ya know? Good for them for fooling them all and having the baby in Africa, on the other hand, i am not so sure i would want to give birth in an African hospital or any other foreign country unless i couldn't help it (like being in the military or something).

Shiloh (shee-low) is actually Hebrew origin, and it means the peaceful one. Shiloh is also an epithet denoting the Messiah. I think it's a pretty unique name.

With TomKat's baby, I really didn't like the name they picked for their daughter.

Some people who follow the goings-on of the stars might care to know. It's a nice get-a-way from our normal, and sometimes pain filled lives.

Hope you're having a good day

Freeeaky. Who named that one?

I know a guy in the States somewhere renamed himself "trout fishing in America" and there's of course Picabo Street(Peek a Boo) but I actually quite like the name Picabo if it was pronounced like it looks!!

I love some hippie names but others are just plain drug induced, lol.

Yes I do think some names like Apple, or Wind (not the Wind here on this board) are odd. It's one thing to be unique, but totally another thing to be out there.

Apparently a lot of people do, including my wife. I could give a rat's behind about any celebrity. Bottom line is no matter how much you read about these people, we don't know them. I got all excited about seeing two baseball players last week but I could care less about their personal lives. But hey, whatever floats your boat!

Oh, the magician guy from Penn and Teller. One of the two (either Penn or Teller) I can't remember. He just had another child and named it something strange as well.

I'm all for having a special meaning for the name you choose. I wanted a Irish name for both my boys so I got my little Irish names book out and chose from that. Yes, they may have been trendy at the time (which I really didn't care since I was chosing a name according to the meaning of the name)however, I and everyone else could pronounce it and it was an American name! I never even hear of Shiloh. If I hadn't read it was a girl I would have had no clue if that name was boy or girl.I guess I'm ignorant or oblivious but I honestly didn't even know Angelina was Hebrew. Is Brad too? I guess I just figured Angelina and Brad are normal names why did they name their child a strange name?
Thanks though for the meaning of the name. It is rather pretty. (Just like I'm sure she's gonna grow up to be

What are your boys' names Lisa? I know Alicia has a Liam (Irish for William) do you have one too? (sorry I can't remember)

I follow the celeb news too, I know it's seedy and rubbish but I enjoy it. The names have gone crazy though...Bob Geldof and Paula Yates started it...Fifi Trixibelle, Pixie and Peaches Blossom, but recently those names which were so far out in the 80s seem normal compared to some of the newer celebrity names. Then David Bowie's son Zowie was born before any of the Geldofs, but he goes by his second name of Duncan nowadays. Oh and don't Bruce Willis and Demi Moore's kids have unusual names too...Scout La Rue I think?

Geri Haliwell (ex Spice Girl) is in the news over here for having called her little girl Bluebell Madonna.

Check out this link for unusual names that musicians have given their kids. Some very strange ones and others downright normal- Like Britney's Sean Preston- I really like that!

I like simple names that people can spell, mostly Irish ones as they match Irish surnames pretty well, but each to their own I think, unless you are going to give your child an awful legacy of being teased on account of their name...

My boys are Kyle James (James after my father and grandfather) and Ryan Keith (Keith after who knows, just fit well together. My maiden name is your typical Irish last name. Starts with a Mc. (Don't want to put it on line tho. )So I guess that actually only makes my boys like "part" Irish. Hubby is of German decent.
My Aunt and Uncle named their 3 boys, Danny, Sean, and Liam.

How bout the boxer George Forman who named all three of his boys George. Now how dumb is that! Fifi Trixabelle comes in close second. I can't believe that one! Too funny.
We have a Phillies Baseball player named Chase Uttley. I LOVE that name. A few years ago a friend of mine named her son Chase and I thought it was so weird, now after hearing it again years later it grew on me.

Kyle really made a comeback after Kyle McLachlan in twin peaks. I like your boys' names, short and simple!

I vaguely remember hearing the George Foreman story before, crazy!

Wasn't there a Chase in Falcon Crest? I think he was married to Maggie and was Colt's Dad? We used to love the American soaps for all the different names that we had never heard in them. Paige was a new one on me too.

Over here the most popular names at the moment for babies are Sean, Jack, Adam, Conor and James for boys and Emma, Katie, Sarah, Amy and Aoife (pronounced Ee-fa, Irish of Eve. Recently american style names are becoming more popular, like Dylan, Ava, Kayla, Noah.

Our Central Statistics Office publishes a report every year of the most popular baby names and analyses trends etc, it also lists the 100 most popular names. I find it compulsive reading- it's here if anyone else is interested.

Sinead was 47th most popular for baby girls born in 2004!
