and I just wana say...I think you have an AMAZING attitude to all of this for a 12 year old. Well done for doing all you can to try and make urself better thats a hard enough thing for an adult to take on...you should be proud of yourself. Im sorry you've started your periods when all this is going on though...yea it is a good job its only once a month...thats bad enough I think....get a good hot water bottle...really helps when you're having period cramps. Glad to see you back on the boards and glad you're properly diagnosed now...atleast that is a weight off your mind and you can be sure to do all the right things now to get yourself better. If you ever want to email me about anything its in my profile...I got really sick when I was your age and found it really hard so I know what its like to go through illness at a young age. Stay positive and keep posting if you need any advice.

Sending LOTS of happy tummy thoughts your way!!!

Hello. It's my first day on the board. I'm from England, by the way, found this website in a great book I'm reading about digestive disorders.

It's good that you're finally diagnosed. I'm not quite there yet. I'm in the middle of tests and, although most things have been discounted, I have to see a specialist now for the final diagnosis.

It's interesting what you say about your period 'cause I've just had my first attack in ages this morning and I'm due on any day now. Must check back on my diary and see if this is a co-incidence.

Talking of which, must go now.......

Im from the UK too am up north in Leeds at the moment at university. Any advice as regards to safe foods and where to get them etc feel free to email me or post me a message(my email is in my profile)

About your period there is definately alot of people whos symptoms worsen at that time of the month...me included...so you're not alone there. Are you IBS-A, D OR C??

Hi Natalie, thanks for the replies.

Ohh you're getting technical now - I'm a newby but I'm guessing IBS-D means diarrioah and if so, that's me.

I've just had my NHS booking form for my specialist appointment; can't get through at the moment but looking forward to getting the final diagnosis.

Well, it's not nice but at least you've now been officially diagnosed - which puts your mind at rest that it's nothing more 'serious'. (Yeah, I know, it sounds rubbish because IBS feels anything but 'not serious'...)

You have a great attitude, I can't believe how old you are. How are you trying to manage your symptoms so far? Hot water bottles are definitely great, as is drinking plenty of water, sticking to Heather's diet, etc.

Good luck, and hope you feel better soon!

IBS-D is diarhoea predominant...IBS-A means alternating as in a mixture of both diarhoea and constipation at alternating times and IBS-C is obviously constipation predominant.

Im so glad you have an appointment so you can truly find out whats going on...if it makes you feel any better its taken them over 5 years to give me a colonoscopy...ridiculous I know...but Im still awaiting my results though its pretty much conclusive that its ibs and Ive been living with it for long enough. Ive been a member of these boards for over 2 years now...they saved my life!!! Anything you need to know just ask.

I can`t believe how old you are either! poor u for getting it so early but its good it has been confirmed as ibs...i`m still waiting. It`s hard but a positive attitude certainly helps...and u seem to have that. Periods are rubish, I can tell u that. my ibs goes alot worse with them (had lots of prblems with periods too) good luck with everything, if you need anyone to chat to feel free to email.

Jaq = welcome! I `m from England too, there are quite a few of us british (nat and blondie are two of them...lovely girls i`m such a suck up) this site and message board are a great help so happy posting, use it as much as you can, and feel free email too.
