It's my bday this week! But I had to have the discussion about my stomach issue(s) when they asked me why I wouldn't be eating ice cream at my little (new) office party.
I've only been here 2 weeks and I'm already outed as a stelth sickie!

Oh really? I always told work people that I had a sensitive stomach and it ended there. Did you actually tell them you have ibs?

I told them I had stomach problems when I ate and took medication for it. They see me popping pills so at least it offered them an explanation...!

That's a really easy way to put it without offering too much information! Sounds like you've had practice...

Happy birthday! How are you going to celebrate?
Oh yes - the tummy talk. It sounds like you handled it well! If I don't say anything, people assume I'm on a diet. I don't like to talk about it in detail, but it's usually enough if I just explain I have a bowel disorder .

Ugh....that's the worst.
At least you've said what you have to say about your tummy problems and it's over and done with.
It's never fun having to explain this stuff though.

I just got through to my bosses (5 men) that I have a chronic illness which affects me enough I can't always be at work - although I have never missed a full day there yet for my IBS (damn loyalty anyway..) But in 5 years, they just figured out lately - gee, Cass hasn't been herself lately - for 2 1/2 months!! I hope your new co-workers are easier going than my bosses!!

Happy Birthday Nel!! (Maybe Lock will blow you a kiss during Lost!) It's ggod that you had the talk, it's much easier, because I've found when I try to hide it, it's much more stressful. I hope things are going well in your job other than that!

First off, Happy Birthday, Nelly!!!!!
Second, at my former job, I had to explain because they all knew I went for a colonoscopy. At this job, I waited a few months before saying anything. A woman I work with has IBS-D, so that helped make things easier. It also helps that I work with/for a GREAT female boss (no offense to the guys....it's just easier talking to the same sex). I had some problems when I first started working here, so I had to say something. Things are MUCH better now. This job is A LOT less stressful than my other one!

I had a nice birthday. I got cake at work and everybody wished me happy birthday (probably because I had a big leftover cake on my desk that read "IRTHDAY").

I always dreaded starting a new job because eventually someone would figure out out I had stomache issues and inquiring minds want to know "What's wrong with you?". I will be at my current job a year in July and they are really cool people, they except me as I am. I can belch like a man and noone even skips a beat in conversation anymore.
I wish you much support from your fellow co-workers and I hope you had a great b-day week.
