Yikes.
i have a big dinner with family planned tonight, then am going out with a bunch of friends while Kay stays at Nanny's house, and Daddy of course, has to work.
Then on Tuesday we are taking off for Banff, and I am getting a spa afternoon after all! We're staying in a five star hotel and eating at four star restaurants. And most importantly, we will spend THREE WHOLE DAYS ALONE TOGETHER. The last time, and only time that's ever happened is our honeymoon. Five years ago!
So I'm happy about that!! Big time. he never over-spoils me, so this is like, over the top!
Hopefully my 30s are as good to me as my mid twenties. The early twenties were OK, the late ones, after kayleighs birth have been unlucky and sick, and I'm sort of happy to walk away.

It's just hard on me because I've got all these perfectionistic should haves running through my head. I should have a mortgage, I should have a teaching contract, i swhould have baby #2 over and done with...and I should be 40 pounds lighter, LOL!
That's the only reason it is at all stressful. Age itself is no biggie. I'll never get Botox, (maybe a tummy tuck) I'll proibably be OK with grey hair, and I won't mind hiking my pants up to my nipples some day, lol. But when i look at what I feel I should have accomplished by now, that's when i get mad at myself. Like these things are ALL under my control or something. Very silly, I know. That's what makes perfectionists like me so retarded!LOL!

Thirty's not so bad, not so bad at all. So far, my 30s are MUCH better than my 20s were. A week after I turned 30, I got out of a bad relationship and got my career back on track. Then I got my self & my confidence back, met the man I married, and all sorts of good stuff.
I'm sure your 30s will hold all sorts of good stuff, too!

Happy Birthday Shannon!
I totally feel your pain. I'll be 25 in August and I'm dreading it. I was supposed to be married with at least one kid by this time. haha.. I can't even get a date, nevermind a fiance.
I do understand though.. its hard not to plan for the future with high hopes.. its ingrained in us since birth to have unrealistic expectations.. and of course we feel crappy when we really just how unrealistic they are.

LOL you would think with all our psych background, and you know how into psych I ambut really...you'd think we'd know how to SOLVE our own problems, and compulsions and obsessions, eh?? Why can't we? I do every survey i can get my hands on and it is a damn good thing I can't get a hold of the actually psych administered assessments, because it'd be ugly...
I often wonder if that's why we didn't get into ed psych.(well, my original and still standing plan is to be a child psychologist)in the first place... to solve our own problems from our own mentality/childhood!!!
Whaddaya think? Analyze this!!
maybe it's just me. i'm VERY close to being OK with my childhood and my past. God bless that.

Your celebrations sound fantastic, have a great time.
I turn 30 in May so I know all the "ought to have dones" that you are talking about, big birthdays reallymake you start checking up on your "to do by" list.
Let me know how 30 goes so that I can prepare myself for it!
Must start writing our "to do by 40" lists now!

haha... I dunno! thats a good question..
I'm not sure that thats why I went into educational psychology though.. because I was a very lucky child. I grew up in a cookie cutter middle/high socioeconomic status household, two parents still married, without abuse, or fighting, mental health problems or learning disabilities. So I dunno if your theory works for me... but I bet it does apply to many people!
I know I went into it beause I love psychology, and I love kids! it went together like bread and butter. haha

I wrote that post last night after getting home...and I had had a few drinks... I got personal there. I'm GLAD you came from a cookie cutter family! That's what my plan is for my daughter. You know, considering my neglect/abuse as a kid, I think I turned out pretty well.
Sorry to put you on the spot. That was just a drunk woman's ramblings. Ha ha, so not what a 30 year old should say!!!

Just a little OCD in me but not enough to actually get a diagnosis, that's all. And a little anxiety.
I know it'll be fine. I think this forum was so important in helping me talk through what I was worried about, and it will all be OK now.

Happy birthday. 30 hasn't been too bad the last month, lol. You sound like me. My mid to late 20's were terrible being sick so much and I gained so much when I was pregnant with my first at 21. I've been doing so much better and I actually lost all my baby weight plus 6 lbs depending on the day. I actually weigh less than I did when we got married 9 year ago.
Enjoy your time away.

Haha nope, I was raised here in centrist-cental-Canada, and yup, we packed up everything (in our VW van no less!) and drove the 4 days to Banff every year! But that was all part of the fun... and part of the tradition... my mom's family had been doing it since the 60s!
My partner grew up in Edmonton though and he's NEVER BEEN to Banff! Well, you know where WE'RE headed once we get some money in the bank... lol

I'm a perfectionist, too, so just try to remember that it's about the journey, not the destination! (Easier said than done, I know.)
I think there are a few of us all around the same age. Like Sinead, I will also be 30 in May!
