Here's a pic of our new addition! We adopted him from the pound and were told he is a shepherd mix. He's about 9 months to a year and just an absolute love bug!!! His name is KC(KC Chiefs) and will be my new walking partner. Thanks for letting me share.

Do you know any of his history? Any idea whether or not he was mistreated? Does he seem at all shy, or does he cower at all?

Thanks for savings an animal's life, Alyson.

He's very sweet and playful. He only cowers when my grandpup asserts her dominance with him. He hides behind me and looks at me as if to say, what's her problem mom? I have been backtracking his file and this is as far as I've gotten so far. We adopted him from the Oregon Humane Society in Portland on the 14th. He arrived there on the 7th of February from Greenhill Humane Society in Eugene OR. He arrived at Green hill on the 26th of October 2005 from another shelter in Winchester OR. Green hill said he was adopted once and returned by the same woman who said he ate her jewelry. I have no idea as of yet how long he had been at the last one, but have emailed them asking for some info. He doesn't appear to have been mistreated, or at least doesn't act it. Surprisingly, as much time as he has spent in the system, he isn't shy at all. Someone had to have worked with him at some point because he can sit, lay down shake, stay etc... Or he is just very smart and quick to learn. My 16 YO son taught him to play dead yesterday in about 1/2 hour. He is just so eager to play and please. He seems genuinely happy to just finally have a home. When we came back for him at the pound, you could see the look of "oh, you came back! I get to leave" on his face. I hope I can get more info on him. I'd really like to know what he is. His tail curls like a Basenji, but I don't think that's what he is. What ever he is, he's jut the sweetest 65 pound lap dog....:)

..... is that a mutt is far more intelligent than a pure-bred. I don't know if that's true, but it sure sounds like it, at least as regards KC. I like him. I think you did a good job adopting him. Barbie had great success with Annie-Belle, and she too saved a dog's life. I just love that, and I think both of you are super terrific. I know you'll enjoy KC for a very long time; like most loved dogs, he'll reward you two-fold.

Thanks so much for your kind words. KC actualy is joining our other two pound puppies. One is my 12+ YO black lab mix(yes, mixes are wonderful!) who is, sadly on his last bit of time with us. The other is my daughter's black lab mix, she is 3. My daughter is coming home and will take her with her. I've already decided that when it comes time for my old guy to go, I will definitely adopt another. I love having at least two around under my feet...:)

Whatt a nice story! Hope puppy and mom have a long, happy life together. No more shelters for that sweetie...and so smart!!!

Didn't they find the dog who played Benji in the shelters?
My sister adopted a dog from the humane society..and he is as smart as a whip too! He can roll over, "talk", sit, dance, fetch....he surprises her everyday with another talent we didn't know about!

He looks like my dog Sandy when she was young and thin. Then she got old and fat. (like me) I love dogs. They won't get one for here. They say it's a State law or some such b.s.

What a great idea to adopt. We did the same thing after we had to have our beloved Rusty put down. We got Annie who is 2 yrs old from the Golden Retriever Rescue and she, too, is a love bug!

Aren't they great!

Have fun with him.

I think they are so cute and addorable when they get big. My daughter's dog(the one I am keeping for her) is a 93 pound black lab that could really stand a diet(and is on one) but I think she is perfect the way she is....:) Sorry that you can't have dogs there, I think places like that would benefit everyone if they had apet or two running around, it really lifts peoples spirts to be around animals.

I thought this would be a good timeto get one before we have to put on 12 YO black lab down. He's been a good dad so far, except that he has begun marking in the house. He's never been one to have accidents in the house, except since he started having seizures(he has a brain tumor..:(). He's NEVER had a problem with any other dog before and KC is fixed, so I don't know what the deal is.....Oh well, hopefully it will stop, I'm gonna burn out my steam cleaner if it doesn't...

Alyson, My Vet said a sheperd-hound mix. Oddly enough he acts
like a love bug too. He was a stray that just showed up at my
house about four years ago. I had a britanny spaniel at that
time that he became buddies with. Unfortunately the brittany
passed away last year. He's become a lot closer with the cats
since then. -Bob
