I have been stable for almost 4 months and now that I am pregnant my stomach has been turned upside down and is causing me trouble again. I am D promient and the D has reared its ugly head. How are your pregnancys going? Is there anything in particular that you do to help with your IBS while being pregnant. Any thoughts or advice I would appreciate.

congrats!! i'm mostly d too i do have bouts of d. this week i'd had been having cramping. I still take immodium which is safe to take when preggers...and i take dicylamine which is also safe to take durring pregnancy...
when i do feel not so good i also drink ginger tea, and fennel mixed together, becuase i don't really like the taste of fennel by itself.
at night (i'm a waitress) when i get off of work i use a heating pad for my lower back, which has always seemed to put less strain on my body, and helps my tummy some how.
But there are certain things i'll say i have to complain which you being d will understand...my cravings i don't really have, because i cna't really indulge. I have soy icecream, skittles, whole food doughnuts...lol..but it's hard with the cravings too!
also you can appreciate it, or soon will be able to, when i feel baby move...i feel like i'm about to have a bad gas explosion, or d...but it's just the baby jumping on my intestine!! (so there is a little feeling of relief there...haha..no one else can understand that fear, then sudden calm!)
but i say immodium, and tums are great over the counter safe things to take, then the teas. it's made a WORLD of a difference for me!! laying down has helped me, like yesterday i wasn't feeling too good (i also ate 4 chocolate chip cookies for some stupid reaaon) so i layed down on my left side (which was the side my body was teling me to lay on) and rested...i felt alot better....
however, i got sent home yesterday from work.i'll post that a little later though. hope that's helped you some??

Thanks for your reply. I did not have IBS until after I gave birth to my son 2 years ago. So this pregnancy is completely different already. I was not sure about the immodium and tums so thanks for mentioning them. Do you know if we are able to drink peppermint tea? I know there is a big thing on herbs and pregnancy because not enough studies have been done. I dont mind sucking it up and taking the pain but if I can relieve it some how that would be awesome.
I usually try to take a hot bath or shower when my stomach starts to act up but that is hard when you have another one (as I am sure you know) especially the bath because he constantly begs me to let him in.
Also did you develop hemrrhoids during either one of your pregnancy's? I did and that just makes the whole situation worse.
Anyway thanks for you help and thanks for listening to me ramble on.

Hi! How far along are you? I'm C, so yes, that's come back. I had gotten it well under control by using Benefiber, and had even slacked off on Benefiber, until I found out I was pregnant and then soon the C was back. So I'm upping my dosage again, and hoping that will help. But I also get bloated, gassy, the works. Boo! I think it just comes along with the territory, even for women who didn't have IBS before. I say ask your doctor about what is safe to take to treat your D!

i didn't seem to really really have IBS until about a year and a half ago...but i realize now alot of problems i had ws probably because of IBS symptoms...but it got really bad last year, and my daughter is 5 1/2 so this is pretty new for me and pregnancy too!!
