What was your first job (besides babysitting)?
Mine was working at my dad's gas station pumping gas. I worked with my cousin and he and I had so much fun. We were about 13 and 15 or so. When it was slow we would drink whole pots of coffee and then have to pee 5000 times for the rest of the day LOL
Those were the days.
I think we made about $5.00/hour or something.

Mine (although I don't like to remember too much about it) was being a sales associate at Ross Stores. Oh man - what a good learning experience on horrible jobs. Contrary to belief, we did clean that store every night until 2-3am in the morning sometimes - even though it never looked clean about an hour after opening. Worked for about a 1 1/2 yrs and was an acting assistant manager without the pay increase.

I worked at a bakery. Mostly counter person, but sometimes helped in the back with decorating cakes & final touches on pastries and such.
Believe it or not, I lost almost 20 lbs when I started working there! LOL
BTW Lana, I can not picture you pumping gas - especially in that bridal gown!

THat is so funny! My first job was also in a bakery that I could walk to from my house. I was 14 and my dad told me to "get a job.." I worked counter too..it was busy at the Holidays! Worked there until I was 18..I don't know why...

My first was a waitress at a Coffee Shop/Restaurant.I lasted about 3 weeks. I started a 6:00 am and had to have coffee ready and clean bathrooms before opening at 6:30 am. I hated that job. Also the guy I worked for was a--hole.

My first job was at a music/movie/book store in the mall, and it was incredibly boring. I worked in the music section, and we were supposed to ask people if they needed any help, but no one ever did, so I ended up spending most of my time straightening up the rows of CDs and watching the clock to see when it would be time to go home!

I worked at the bakery from the time I was 16 until I was 19. We used to have to come in on overtime to make cookies trays during the holidays and pack up orders for babkas, stollen & bread/rolls. The cookie trays would be stacked in bread trays (those plastic orange things) almost straight up to the ceiling! Those customers were insane during the holidays, weren't they?

That's right, while I was finishing high school and uni I was a McDonalds chick!
The thought of dumping the huge wad of shortening into the vat to cook fries makes me want to throw up now.
I remember my trainee wage was something like $4.20 an hour.

My first job was working at Pig N Whistle making ice cream cones and sundeas for customers. My twin sister worked there too and we alot of fun fooling customers. The best part of the job was eating our mistakes.

My very first job was a paper route when I was 11. I kept that job until I was 16. I made 5 cents per paper per day. Because I was a little girl, the tips were great. It was fun at Christmas time when people would leave gifts for me on their doorsteps.

The Pig N Whistle used to be a bar here. I was too young to go - but my boss always talks about it.
Pretty ironic how people choose the same names for places.

I was a library page. I was the one who had to put the books in alphabetical and/or numerical order to put away on the shelves. I was really good at alphabetizing and I knew the months of the year backwards for the magazings. Impressive huh?
I also had the fun job of shelf reading. Making sure everything was in order. Then when I worked in the children's dept. I would sometimes have to go shelf to shelf cleaning the book covers. It is really gross when the books were sticky.

What a great topic!
My 1st job was woring in a doc's office as a secretary...and simultaneously working as a C.I.T. (camp counselor in training)! The 1st job was uneventful. The 2nd job...one of the campers spit up on me (she was like 10...not a baby or anything)! The other counselors couldn't believe my calm attitude...but if I had gotten upset the kid would have felt HORRIBLE...so I let it ride. I guess looking back it was good practice for being a mom which I hope to be someday soon!
Lana, that's adorable! Before your IBs diagnosis...how much coffee did you chug a day?

I did this too...but as a volunteer! I also worked in the children's section...I played games with the kids and led puppet shows and stuff. The shelving was tedious...but the kids were adorable! I don't remember the kid's section being sticky...gross!

The sticky books would happen on occasion. It wasn't something that happened all the time. The books would get grimmy after a while.
I love the kids too. That was the best part of the job. Besides when I worked in the children's dept I was also able to check in/out the book, give out library cards and help with story-hour. Of course you also would get the kids whose parents didn't care what they did. Half the time they weren't even there. Those kids were in 1st or 2nd grade and they would cause some trouble. Now I enjoy going there with my girls. We were just there today.

Kids are the best! That's so cute...I remember story hour! I wonder if they still read the same stories now that they read when I was a kid...
Enjoy your kids...they grow up so fast!

I never drank that much coffee except for when we were young because we weren't allowed it at home...and at "work" there was no one there to stop us LOL
But holy lightning was it tough to punch the keys in the cash register with those shakes LOL
CIT sounds so cool - I always wanted to be one, I always thought it would be such a cool job.
