Stress at work - SITE VISITS!

Hi everyone! I don't post much, so I feel a bit 'out of the loop', but I do read other people's posts often and seeing how supportive everyone is of each other is really comforting!

Anyway, my latest debarcle is that something has arisen at work to stress me out!! Eeek! The job I've had for the last few months (since I got back from overseas) is in an office, but I knew when I took it that I would probably have to go out on site sometime. 'Sometime' has arrived! Working out on site is not really a problem - getting there is! Our boss took me and 3 other new kids out on a site visit last week, and I had to face a TWO AND A HALF HOUR car ride with FOUR STRANGERS!! I was squished in the back seat between two guys, with two more in the front! (I work in a male-dominant industry.) Ahhh! Long story short - I survived. But I was really stressed out leading up to the trip, even though I rarely have D episodes lately, thanks to Heather's diet. I was so happy and relieved to have survived that trip - most of the trip was along highways with no rest stops nearby and it would have been so humiliating if anything had happened!

My relief didn't last long though, since I just found out they've scheduled another site visit later in the month!! I just don't want to risk it again! I decided I'd feel so much more relaxed if I could drive myself out there, but there may be some problems with this due to work safety issues etc. (my company is fanatical about workplace safety), but I feel like this is the only way I can go through with it again! And I don't want to have to explain my reluctance to go with everyone else if challenged.

This sux! Has anyone else been put in a sticky spot like this at work?

Don't know if this will help, but here's what I did:

I had to make a day trip with my co-workers last summer. There's only 5 of us in the office, all women. We're pretty friendly, so they all know I have IBS.

Anyway, this trip was before I was really stable. What I did was pack my little survival kit with no apology or comment. It contained my bottle of water, Pepto Bismal, FF soda crackers, and a roll of toilet paper. (My Levsin & Fibercon are always in my purse.) I was nervous about making the trip because of some tension in the office at the time and because of my IBS, but it worked out fine.

And I like to think I would have done the same thing even if I had had to travel with males.

Maybe you can take an Immodium or 2 before the trip?

Thanks guys! I will definitely take my own lunch etc. And as for taking Immodium, I've seen that a lot of other people take them as a preventative, so I'll try that too! I'll take them the night before and that morning?
