I posted last week that I had been scheduled to get a B12 shot on Friday. Well, I went in that afternoon and sat in the waiting area for 20 minutes and then in the nurses office for 10 minutes and then in comes a nurse, all stressed out and in a hurry, looks at the chart and plunks a small syringe full of red syrum in my arm and tells to me to come back next month - that's all it took. Well, I didn't feel the effects of the shot until the weekend, but I've really noticed the difference and it's WONDERFUL!!!! On Saturday night hubby and I went with a few freinds to see a movie - I didn't feel tired and stayed awake for the whole thing! Afterwards we went and had drinks and stayed out till about 1:00 am and I was fine (we'd slept in that morning so I'd had a good night's rest). We got home and I wasn't jittery or anything, I went right to sleep. Today at work we received a letter from China that I had to translate. In the past few months I have tried to do as little translating as possible. It made me SO tired I would litterally fall asleep every 10 or 15 minutes and could barely translate two sentences before my eyelids dropped and my head fell on my hands. Today I translated an entire letter. It was not short. It came out to three pages in English and it took me almost 2.5 hours to translate and I did not fall asleep once. I didn't even feel tired. I am trully elated with this - people may think it sounds silly - but this is a BIG deal!!! Yeah for treatment that works!!!! I know B12 is usually not a problem for most people, but I will warn you, if you are a strict vegetarian you won't get it in your food (unless you supplement) and if you have really bad D your food may not spend enough time in the area of the intestine where it's absorbed so you could be defficient. With Crohn's disease, my intestine is inflamed in the area where B12 absorbs, so I wasn't getting enough. Get your doctor to run a B12 serum level - it's a simple blood test and if you are defficient the treatment is easy and it makes a difference!!!! I'm SO happy with this!
Here's to good news! Just had to share!

I am so glad this worked for you!! I have never gotten this kind of effect from oral B12 supplemets, probably because they give me terribly painful and debilitating D. I will ask my doctor about getting a shot. I wonder if they will give you syringes to take home and use?

I'm so glad for you! Any extra energy is such a good thing!

As I was telling Tissy yday, I too have been so tired, like someone just turned the light switch off. My bulb isn't broken, it's just dark. My back pain just saps the energy right out of me, even when my stomach's doing well. I've gone 2 days without an attack, and I would think since I've been digesting more food I should feel better, but it's just not the case.

On the same note, the scale and my journal say that I'm 25 pounds lighter than I was at this time last year. That can't be right. That would mean that all the weight that came off in the hospital last March is still gone. I can't believe I haven't gained in 9 months; that is so frustrating.

Mindy-- take care and report back about how long this lasts for you. I am so happy this therapy worked! Can you get another shot in a couple of weeks, or is this a one-time deal?

I am definitely going to look into this. I have taken B12 orally before but did not notice any increased energy. This could be my miracle cure! LOL!

I am so glad this has helped you. YAY!!!

That is great. The Dr. is coming here tomorrow and I was planning to ask about vitamins. Even after a few gallons of potassium I am still tired. I was good for a couple of days and am like a dishrag again. Let's hope I can find something to help.
Glad you are feeling peppy-er.

That nasty Crohn's taking all your B12 away!
My stepmom gets B shots for depression. No idea the effects, but it sounds fabulous for you.

Hi Christy,
When I was doing research on the B12 shot I saw some information about people receiving the shots for treatment of fibro. I remember now seeing you post about falling asleep while driving - I'm sure you know how dangerous that is girl! I say that as someone who has had problems with it myself. I havn't taken any car rides longer than 10 miles since I had the shot, but I'm hoping it will also help with that. I don't know about "miricle cure" or anything - but the difference is noticeable - and much, much welcomed! Hope you feel better soon too!

PS - I've been at work for an hour now, staring at my computer screen the whole time to go through news and emails - and I havn't nodded off once!!! That's great!!

You know, I'm kind of surprised that the RDA value for B12 is as low as they place it. There are LOTS of people who notice positive changes with higher levels of B12 in thier bodies - for fatigue, depression, arthritis - it plays a role in all of those. I'm just so glad to be feeling more like a normal person. The fatigue was trully crushing most days! So much better now!
