Hi everyone!
So some of you may remember my post last week about my confusing doctor's visits and the tests I was getting for the fatigue and achiness. Well, my doctor's office called me back yesterday and said that my blood came back with low levels of B12. He has prescribed B12 shots and I get my first one on Friday! I am so excited that maybe there is something that will get me beyond this fatigue! It's been getting worse since I started back to work after Christmas and I've been having to drink caffein (black tea) at work to avoid falling asleep 10 times a day at my desk! That has been really crappy on my tummy and I can feel it taking a toll (she types as her tummy turns over painfully in response to this morning's oatmeal)! I was alittle annoyed that it was a clinical assistant (not even as knowledgeable as a nurse) that called me. She was very nice and as helpful as she could be, but she couldn't answer all my questions. The doctor had said that he thought the B12 defficiency is due to disease activity - so does that mean that there is inflamation problems going on? Is there anything that should be done about it (other than the B12 shot)? I'm not scheduled to see the doctor again until April - ish, so should I just see how I do and wait and see if things get worse? Well, at least I get the B12. I will also pick up the zantak at that point for the intermittent reflux problems. I've started taking acidopholous beads for the YI thing - I will let you guys know how that goes. Have any of you ever had a B12 shot - I think maybe Dalia gets them (but I could be hallucinating about that too). I havn't heard of any side effects with them. Anything I should keep in mind?
Thanks guys.
Min

Your doc has checked for anemia, right? I don't know the whole thing but I think low B12 can be indicative of certain types of Anemia (I think the type where you are eating enough iron but not absorbing it properly). Check into that, I'd think.

Hi 'Manda,
Right you are (as usual)! The B12 deficiency anemia is Pernicious Anemia. It usually results from an inability to produce intrinsic factor that the body needs to absorb the B12. I show signs of heading towards it since my B12 is low and my red blood cells are enlarged. But my doctor said that even though they're enlarged, I have enough red blood cells, meaning I'm not full-blown anemic at this point. They're watching it though.

By the way - much, much congrats on the job! Party hard after the bar!
