Last night I learned that one of the men that served in the same unit in the Army with my DH was killed in Thursday's roadside bombings in Iraq. This young man was the son of retired military and was on his way to becomming Colonel. We always enjoyed being in their home - they lived in quarters just around the corner from us.
He leaves behind a wife and four young children - all under the age of 12. He will be buried at West Point next week. This was a dear couple who loved their country and loved to serve. Please remember all of our servicemen and their families during this time. Thanks!

I can only imagine.
I have a friend who's been over there twice now and come home twice now, safe and sound. It's just not fair that they all can't come home alive and well.

I just have goosebumps. My husband served in Desert Storm and a call from CACO was not anything I ever wanted. My heart goes out to this mans family and friends. You know I am praying!

I am so sorry. My BF's father is a contractor in the Green Zone. We're on eggshells for the last 18 months now...
I'm so sorry for your loss.

What a very sad story. I can't even imagine having a family member fighting over there.
I just don't understand the concept of war. Two sides killing each other???
I will pray for his widow, children, and all the troops and their families. I pray that this war ends soon.
I'm sorry Kim. I'm truly sorry.

I spoke to my friend who initially told me of this tragedy again yesterday. I'd forgotten this, but my close friend's husband and the man who died were classmates at West Point. That is how they heard the news.
His children are 9,7,4 and 2...and I have thought of little else since I learned this news on Friday evening. His wife has not only lost her dear husband, but the military community that she has been part of for the past 15 years. The move back to civilian life is tough even when it is your husban's choice, but to lose your spouse and, as a result, the lifestyle and way of life you have been such a part of for so long...well, I just can't imagine it. I have truly grieved for this family all weekend, and still am waiting to get details.
I do have an address and plan to send my condolences. Oh, what a difficult thing to say - or not say! What is there to say!? I am proud to have known such a patriot. I am thankful to be able to offer friendship and support to his dear wife and family. But words are so inadequate right now. He will have a memorial in TX and another in VA before being buried at West Point. I can't imagine what the next days and weeks will be like for this dear lady and her children!
Please folks, pray for our troops. Pray for an end to the war. Pray for the leaders of our country. Remember this family.
Thanks for listening.

I am so sorry to hear this bad news. War is horrible no matter how you slice it. I will pray for this particular family as well as the many others who have lost loved ones in the wars of Iraq and Afghanistan.
