Books I'd recommend

I've done a ton of reading recently and thought I'd share the names of some books that I have really enjoyed to any other avid readers out there:
1. We need to talk about Kevin by Lionel Shriver
Written from the point of view of a mother of a teenager who carries out a Columbine style killing- fabulous writing, a book to really make you think, not light hearted though so definitely won't cheer you up!
2. Small Island by Andrea Levy
Great storytelling in this one, about a jamaican man and wife living in London after WW2, plots interweave very well.
3. The Kite Runner
Finished this last night, about a man who grows up in Kabul and escapes to America with his father when the Taliban take over. A real pageturner.
Hope some of you get to enjoy these too.

I agree, I'm interested in the first one you listed.
I recently finished My Sister's Keeper.. a real tear jerker, but I really enjoyed it. You should check that out.
I also just finished Million Little Pieces, about a man who was an alcohohic and drug abuser at the age of 23. THe book itself was graphic, but I did enjoy it.... Until the end. I was soooo dissapointed in the ending. It kept me up all night and I couldn't stop thinking about it.
Anyone else read it and feel that way?

I read My Sister's Keeper on honeymoon too. Another "makes you think" book- I really enjoyed and great ending too.

i was getitng an English degree, and now I can't read novels for fun, because I don't ahve that deadline. Silly huh?

Getting my degree and even teaching have totally killed my reading habit! I only read when I'm not working on attending grad school, which is just about never!

college actually made me appreciate pleasure-reading more. i had to read so much for class that when i finally (on break, over the summer) could read for fun, it was even more of a treat. i've always been a completely voracious reader. mmm, books.

....'The Time Traveller's Wife' I forget who it's by but it's sooooo good. Do NOT read it if you're very empathic (like me) tho....it got me so sad I was depressed for a week and I still can't think about it without getting sad!  Definitely the sign of a good book tho if it can get under my skin THAT badly. It couldn't put it down!

Case Histories by Kate Atkinson. Just finished this, great book. Don't know quite how to describe it. Part mystery/thriller, but very dramatic and heart wrenching too. (Not a cheesy mystery). It was great, and different.

LOVED IT! Got a bit confusing until I understood the whole time travel thing. I read it just before our wedding and it was quite emotive at that time. Not one to read to lift your mood, but a great book.
I read that it was launched first as a scifi book and eventually got a more "general release" and then started winning prizes.

Ashley I read it too! I liked it and wanted to know what happened to him. He wrote another book called My friend Leonard. It picks up right where he left off. I've just started reading it! You may want to get that one too!!!

Let me know how My Friend Leonard is...
I was definitly hoping for more at the end.. especially considering how detailed everything else was in the story. It just seemed abrupt.
The thing I hated was just how many of them killed themselves and/or died afterall. But aside from that it was a good read. I'll have to check out the next one.

The book steph is talking about is actually a sequel to the book million little pieces. Sorry! It would be cool if she wrote a sisters keepers sequel though.

..and thought that it was nowhere near as good as My Sister's Keeper. Good twist type thing about Gillian at the end though...
