How can I avoid constipation while taking enough calcium to meet osteoporosis needs?

It is recommended to supplement the calcium with magnesium to prevent the C effect. Unfortunately, I still get C even with the Cal/Mag combo.
Maybe someone else can help us....as I already have osteoporosis and don't take supplements, meds, or eat any calcium...except for the occasional spinach which has calcium I think.

I'm D, not C, but when I researched calcium supplements what I came up with is this:
calcium citrate is good if you're constipated (Citracal)
calcium carbonate is good if you have diarrhea: Tums (but they have mineral oil) Caltrate OsCal Viactiv (but most - perhaps all - flavors have dairy)
I also suggest you start with a very low dosage every day - maybe 200mg - and work your way up very slowly. Even with IBS-D, when I tried just taking 1500mg of calcium right off the bat, I got C.
HTH.

I am using a cal/mag supplement that is a complex comgination of several different types of each mineral for better absorpbtion. I take 1000/500 mg daily broken into two doses which I take at lunch and dinner. I'm a C too, and so far this doesn't bother me.
