I have off Friday and Monday around Christmas, as well as the Friday and Monday around New Year's. I'm taking off Tuesday (doctor's appointment) and Thursday (leaving for my parents') this week though. I'll be back at work on the 27th though. Since it's break, there's not terribly much to do (I work part-time for the University I attend), so I may take a bit more time off here and there since I need it! I've got senior design work to do, like learning how to program the electronics we're using....

Enjoy your holidays everyone, regardless of how little or much time you have off!

What a bummer! Are you allowed to go in late that Monday, at least? I'm sorry they're not letting you take that day off, what spoilsports.

Hm, at least there won't be any traffic...? Sorry.

My husband is a fire-fighter and the day after christmas is a paid holiday for them. Since he is on shift work he gets paid time and a half, but the day work guys get the day off as a paid holiday. How ironic is that?

nope I work in retail so having "the biggest shopping day of the year" off was not an option. I work all day on the 26th so I see your frustration. Doesn't leave much time for family when you count in travel time.
Sorry Shelby, hope they don't expect us to be too productive because I will probably still be STUFFED
Happy Holi.."day"

I'm not working right now so I don't count. But pretty much everyone I know (my sweetie included!) has to go back to work the day after Christmas, so you're not alone.

that is a good way to look at it Shelby, that we are lucky enough to have a job and be well enough to get out of bed to make it to our job. Provided we don't have an IBS attack from all the yummy Christmas treats the day before. I think boxing day should be a holiday where everything is closed. Re-name it "National eat a turkey sandwhich and play with your presents day"
But in my world everyday would be some sort of holiday or celebration and we would never work lol!!!!
I just think it is a time of year where people need to relax and enjoy more time with their families, stop the insanity of today's fast paced everything to look at what we have to cherish instead of what we can buy for 75% off and push each other out of the way for.
Just my opinion

Over here Monday and Tuesday are public holidays so no offices etc open and only places like petrol places and local convenience stores, hotels, bars etc. I'm working Friday and again Thursday 29th

Pubs are not allowed to open on Christmas day at all, only hotels and they can only serve residents of the hotels.

We also have "Bank" holidays and since I work for a bank we get Wednesday off too, and then the following Monday, 2nd January is another public holiday. I am working Thurs & Fri as really can't afford to take any more holidays off.

Can't believe that you have to work on 26th Shelby, that's awful.

Oh my gosh I completely forgot about audits and those things... What a mess! I hate end of the year financials. I only have to deal with a small fraction of what you deal with and my woes are concentrated at the end of the fiscal year.

My boss just announced that he's leaving for the caribbean for a week-- GRRR. He's not allowed BF to take a week off in 2 years but has no time prioritizing his own vacations.

because of the place where they work they're having lots of problems. This is the only time of year hubby takes time off, so it really sucks he's losing his holidays. I don't think it's fair. Even if he gets a day off, he'll be on-call.

I'm on vacation the week between Christmas & New Year's.

My co-workers will be in on the 27th, though. We're closed Christmas Eve day and New Year' Eve day, too, as well as Jan. 2. Having the Mondays after the holidays is a new wrinkle, though.

I'm working Christmas day- my normal day off, but I get NY eve off for it! so I have a 3 day weekend the following weekend.. in exchange for 1 day off this week... I am not taking a day fof for NY week because it doesn't work out to my benefit.

Well, since its just me and the dr, I really don't get time off. We usually close for a day or two around x-mas but since I haven't had a vacation in 2 years, I'm just closing the office for our trip to Tahoe! My boss wasn't thrilled to say the least but at least its normally a slow week anyways!

Government holiday is Monday. My boss also said our office would close at noon on Friday. But I'm taking leave for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and the next Tuesday. I have the hours and I can use the break!

Holidays = not the most restful of times, but good luck to you all in finding some relaxation through it!
