Yeah, it was fun getting fitted! I had a blast. It's deceiving; because I'm so blonde, the bald spits are well hidden, and my hair is real thick at the bottom, so it looks like I have more hair than I really do.
I'm doing this for myself, to make me feel more self-confident in public. If that's vanity, then I guess I'm vain. But I do believe in doing whatever is necessary to make me feel better about me.
I'm joining Weight Watchers after Christmas.
Yaaay me!
Thanks again,
Bevvy

I doubt there are any photos around! I avoid cameras/Fuji film moments. I think I've got a few of me with my real hair prior to the regrowth surge.
Okay--I send one to Ruchie and she can post it. I look like a total dufus, but that's okay. I accept that my soul's human mask/facade is "unique" in this incarnation.
Kate.

Are you going to pin up your hair and where a wig? Or is more like extensions that you get replaced in your hair? Or maybe a "piece" of hair (like a toupee) that your add to your own hair?
I'm curious as to who you go to for this. A beautyshop or a wig place? Is it for all over thin hair or just a thin scalp?
I can't wait to see your new pic! But I agree with everyone else. You look lovely already. And your hair doesn't look that thin either.
I am totally in to making yourself feel better about yourself no matter how you do it! That's why I'm so interested. I think I would feel so much better about myself if I had my thick hair back...not this thinning hair do to stress, medication, and my long battle with anorexia which totally screwed up my hormones.

Kate, I know what you mean about cameras! (But I refuse to have a Fujifilm moment, because their film sucks.) You can always recognize me in pictures -- I'm the one turned away or with a large object in front of my face. I got married a year and a half ago and it's weird to have all of these pictures of me. I think before that the most recent picture I had taken was when I was in New Orleans and wanted a snapshot of me in front of Marie Laveau's tomb.

Hi Beth,
It's a "piece." I'm not a good candidate for extensions; you have to have hair for those, and my problem is that I'm losing my hair. It's all due to stress and hormone imbalance.
You have to go to a specialist for a Hair Hat. Your beautician can recommend someone. They have to be specially trained to learn how to fit you; the fit is crucial so that the Hair Hat is like a second skin. For example, I have a HUGE head, even bigger than hubby's, and in fact bigger than the guy who was fitting me. After he made up my "form," he laid it on my hairdresser's head, and it just floated all over and ultimately fell off; her head is MUCH smaller than mine. So you see, the fitting is real important.
Then he takes cuttings of my hair from several places; these are to match my hair color exactly. Then he asks me a million questions, mostly about how I want to wear my hair. It's important because then he lets them know which pieces of hair are to "grow out" in which direction.
The "piece" is constructed of human hair, and each individual strand of hair is individually tied to the mesh "form." It's VERY expensive and extremely time-consuming. It takes months to make it up. I'm not expecting it until February.
Before I decided definitely to go ahead with it, my hairdresser introduced me to a woman friend of hers who wears a Hair Hat, and in fact ordered it from the same guy I did. I took to this woman immediately. She's an incredible woman who may have just changed my life. This person has been to Hell and back; besides suffering like you would not believe in many ways, including her first husband's untimely death just months before her baby was to be delivered, she came down with cervical cancer and was not expected to live. They had to give her medication that caused her to lose her hair; it came out in clumps. She has kicked the cancer, believe it or not, but still has to take the medication, which causes her to keep losing hair. This woman has an INCREDIBLE attitude about life. She's a fighter who refuses to give up. She wears her Hair Hat with pride and swears by a good sense of humor; she says it's what's kept her alive. The whole time she was talking to me, I had to fight back the emotion; truly, she's an inspiration unlike any person I've ever met.
Like she said, "the hair loss is nothing. I'm ALIVE." When she put her Hair Hat on, her own hair blended in so beautifully I could not see the mess "form" and it took her only seconds to put on.
If you need a "piece," GOFERIT. And wear it with pride like my new survivor friend.
Bev
