and I feel so down. I wanted to end it on a good note, but it didn't go as I had planned. The manager walks me back to her office to get one of those "exit interview" forms out of her filing cabinet and I was going to tell her thank you for giving me this opportunity and tell her I'm sorry it didn't work out. Instead, she says in a very bitchy tone, "The regional manager asked me when your last day was. He also said, 'Did you know she was wearing tennis shoes the other day?' Jerry (the marketing manager) noticed it too!" she tells me. I felt like she was stabbing me in the side.
I wanted to scream. One of the reasons I decided to quit this job was because I have feet problems and standing all day on the concrete without my shoes with the custom orthodics in them was making my feet problems worse. When I turned in my resignation, the manager begged me to stay on for 2 weeks until she could find someone else. I told her I would, but only if I could wear my tennis shoes and she agreed that that would be ok. Today, when she mentioned that both managers had called it to her attention, I felt like she was making sure that I knew that I had gotten her in trouble since I had not followed company policy.
This is a very casual children's furniture/toy store, mine you!!! I could understand if it were an elegant jewelry or women's clothing store. I can't believe that they were being so petty. I had done tons of sales lately and I wantedt to say to them, "I don't think any of the customers said to themselves, 'I'm not going to do business with this woman because she's wearing tennis shoes.'"
Sorry, but I just need to vent. I felt like a little girl getting reprimanded by the school principal----all over the kind of shoes I was wearing! Gasp! I'm such a rebel. I wore tennis shoes to work. Ha!

aww....don't feel down. Just think ..... you are outta there and no longer have to deal with that woman. She's probably just jealous that you had the nerve to actually stand up for yourself and leave. I'm proud of you. Do something extra-special for yourself this weekend.

It just blows my mind when bosses are so rude when you leave there. And you know what I learnt it is - it's because they want you to stay, because they like you and they know they can't do anything to keep you.
When I left my sales job last year my boss and I got along really well, but unfortunately I thought he was going bankrupt so I had to leave before I got drug down....when I gave my 2 weeks notice he was just plain nasty...Finally on my absolute last day he asked what he could do to get me to stay? Pardon? You really haven't been all that nice to me to have me consider reconsidering!
I wish people would just honestly say how they feel instead of being rude and making you feel bad for making your OWN life decisions!
OK I AM NOW STEPPING OFF MY SOAP BOX LOL

I'm sorry BL your last day wasn't very pleasant for you. Relax this weekend and enjoy those boys (if they are around).

I'm seriously reconsidering buying ANYTHING from that place!! I'm not kidding. The one I've frequented is not the one you worked at, it's up in Huntersville, but STILL! They have really made me mad about the way they've treated you. I'll just stick to Pottery Barn Kids, thank you very much! Just as cute if not cuter stuff. HA!!
And good night, if you work in a store like that, I'd EXPECT you to wear comfortable shoes. If one of the clerks had heels on I'd be looking at them like they're nuts!
Just try to give it all a "good riddance" and move on. And big hugs!

It was a shame that she had to end it that way, but hey, at least you know FOR SURE that you made the best decision to leave!  Smile and remember that you're not going back there in a hurry! Oh - and I think you should hang those tennis shoes up on display for all to see!
