Oy....another hurricane!

People in my neighborhood are buying up all of the water in our local grocery stores. Though I am 40+ miles from Galveston (a potential Rita target) my boss just told me that they were without electricity for three days the last time one of this strength hit the area.

I have plenty of water and cup-of-noodles...I guess I may bake some muffins.

I suppose with all we saw with Katrina, everyone here is trying to prepare as much as possible. I wonder where the balance is between preparation and paranoia?

My heart really goes out to the folks from Louisiana...the thought of dealing with another hurricane so soon must be a bit much.

Mac's parents live in Houston, and his sister is a bit north at Sam Houston for her freshmen year, but Mac's in Turkey until Saturday. I'm definitely going to make him call them as soon as he gets back in the country to check on them!

Hope everyone in Rita's path is prepared and will be ok!

It is always better to be prepared and not have anything happen then not be prepared and something terrible happen. I an't believe that this thing is going to hit Texas and taht is where a lot of the New orleans refugees were bused to. Unbelieveable. Lets pray this d@mn storm weakens and does not cause considerable damage. That is what I am praying for.

Mac's sister should be fine. The mayor is on TV right now telling people in certain areas to go. We are north of Houston but are totally prepared for the storm...I haven't purchased anything I won't use, have gas (petroleum...not tummy gas ha ha), food, water, batteries, candles and so forth.

My nerves are somewhat shot but other than that, we are OK.

Prayers are welcome....

We are staying put...I have a tank full of gas, water, food, plants in the garage and so forth. We are in good shape...just waiting.

The schools are all closed until further notice...the traffic from Galveston is here. It is sad...people are being ugly in grocery store lines and honking at the gas stations, my friend had a woman snatch bottled water out of her hands! It is amazing how silly people get when they are panicked.

For all of you praying folks...please lift our entire city up. We have folks from Louisiana who are going thru their second hurricane in a month!

Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes!

I can't believe this storm is up to a category 5. This is unbelievable! I feel for all the people in its path. Better leave for this one---rather than risk it!

Stay safe, everyone!!!!

I am in my home...it is well secured and we have a closet ready for hunkering down in if we have to. We have all the supplies we need. I am at peace really...ready for it to be over with. I think the stress of knowing it is coming is almost worse than it being here.

Thank you for your prayers...please continue them. There are so many that are being silly and choosing not to leave unsafe areas and others who don't live in a sturdy home. Our inner-city is very low-lying.

This is rather intense to say the least but I have a husband who secured our home before he left for work, (he's a cop) and a God who watches over my every need.

I appreciate your thoughts and prayers!

Barbie and Gayla have both evacuated. Barbie, Jim, and Annie-B (their new Golden) left yesterday morning, after boarding up her beautiful home; their son, Randy, leaves today. They're all staying with relatives in Dallas. She's trying not to worry about not having a home to come back to, and her tummy is not cooperating. I am out of e-mail touch with her, but have the telephone number where I can reach her.

Gayla leaves today. I got an e-mail from her this morning. They have to let all the cattle, horses, and dogs loose on the Ranch; can't take 'em to the City. Thankfully the dogs know to hide in the barn; the horses head for the trees.

Please pray for them all.

Bev

I emailed Mac's mom last night to see how she and Mac's dad and the cats were. Haven't heard back yet, but I did get to talk to Mac online this morning. He's not too worried, since they live in The Heights, and it tends to not flood as badly there. His biggest concern was that their indoor-outdoor cats wouldn't be happy having to stay indoors due to the storm!

Had anyone heard from Barbie? I hope she's ok!

I don't know what to think about these hurricanes. It's so frightening. I've been addicted to CNN watching the coverage in fear of the devastation and loss.

Please be safe everyone and check in when you can to alert us that you're okay.

Hey Shell! Thanks for thinking of me! I am much farther north in Dallas so we
should be fine. They are expecting for the hurricane to still be a category
1 when it hits Dallas Sunday morning. I'll let you know how it goes! I'll

As you all know the hurricane turned east and though we were out of power for two days, all is well.

It was frightening...the winds howled and the rain was intense, we had an internal closet emptied out and had important papers and such as well as bare necessities in it. Ashley and I slept in the closet Friday night and the boys were close by.

I so feel for those who were affected by Katrina and Rita...the anxiety wears you out, you lose track of time and of course the lack of sleep doesn't do much for ones sunny disposition.

All in all...my stomach acted appropriately! It is tense but I am not having major "C" like expected! Yahoo...

Thank you all who prayed for us Houstonians...it meant the world to me. Now...to hear from the others!

Hey Shelby Jean!

Barbie and Gayla dodged a bullet.

Barbie's son, Randy, stayed behind in their boarded-up house with no power. He used their generator, but it ran out of gas. Still, it could have been MUCH worse. Barbie is staying with friends in Dallas, and having a wonderful time.

Gayla, it turns out, never left after all. Here's a part of an e-mail I just got from her:

Quote:

My brother in law had an altercation on the highway while he was waiting in a traffic jam, all of the people trying to leave. There were several cars of people, cutting in traffic and acting like creeps, they were trying to make someone mad so they could get a fight started. My bil's truck was hit by one of them, when the traffic moved a little, he bumped into their van and moved them up. They unloaded and there were about 8 of them coming at him. He had his Smith and Wesson on the seat beside him .... when they got close to him, he showed it to them and told them what he would definitely do to them if they came any closer, they went back to their vehicle and he did not see them bother anyone else. He spent the rest of the time waiting for the traffic to move, walking around and checking on people offering them water, ......

I think they made the right decision to stay behind, don't you?!

I pray for the people of New Orleans.

Yes, of course I'll pray for your sister. It CAN be beaten, Shelby. My brother had prostate cancer 5 years ago and had to have his prostate removed. It was a close call. He's doing fine now, the cancer is all gone, and despite the bad side effects, he SURVIVED.

I pray your sister will too.
