I have a five pound bag of frozen green beans (because unlike brocolli, green beans don't hate me) in the freezer right now. Does that count?

I've also started buying rice in 5 lb. bags, but I bet I'm not the only one around here who does that!

I'm the queen of frugality! I have about a zillion tips to be frugal ... but most people think I'm nuts when I share them.

P.S. I buy loperamide at Sam's Club, too. But last time I bought it the bottle was $6.87 for a bottle of 350.

Please. I won't think you're nuts...or I won't say so, anyway!

I buy family packs of chicken breasts and they put 2 or 3 pieces each in ziplock freezer bags. Then I don't need to buy chicken every week.

I used to wash out the freezer bags and reuse them, too, but the husband thought that was a little nutso, so I stopped.

Oh yes I agree!!! I buy the no name brand loperamide (immodium) and Simethicone (gas-x). I will only buy Walmart and Sam's Club brand because they are the BEST prices. I have tried the name brands and they don't work any better for me and have extra additives. Why pay more when you don't have to????

Yes, it is a wholesale Walmart. Do you have Costco?? if you do it is the same as that or Price Club. Membership to shop and it is all bulk quantities, electronics, etc

Would 'Sam's Club' be CostCo.? I'm in the Waterloo Region and
order stuff from CostCo. to save tons of $$$ !!! (My Dad picks it up/delivers it too me) Do they sell Immodium/Gas-X there? I haven't been there in awhile. Just curious.

I'm actually, ironically, a wee bit 'batty' tonight. My weekly Cost Co. delivery is LATE!!! I usually get a half dozen 1kg. bags of baby spinach, there and a bunch of 1lb. spring mix salads...not to mention h2o and well...you know...lots of stuff! Eeek.

Lol! Cost Co., the mothershop/store. (I hate shopping)

Kate.

They are the same idea, Sam's Club is owned by Walmart. I don't go to Costco to compare what they have. When I lived in London, ON they have both and I would go to the Sam's Club there and I really miss it. I would get my Simethicone and Loperamide there. They are huge boxes and really inexpensive. The Loperamide was a box of 84 pills for around $14 and the Simethicone is $4.80 for either 60 or 90 caps (can't remember). I don't have Costco or Sam's Club here and my membership ran out or I would drive back. So... I am buying my "supplies" at Walmart right now 48 Loperamide for $10 and 30 Simethicone for $3.
I looove shopping, hope this isn't more info than what you were asking lol and have a good day.
If only I could stop having attacks I would get my butt to class. Nothing like missing a day in the first 3 weeks

I did the same with chicken. We would have the "buy 1 get 1 free" deals at the grocery store and I would get a couple of family size packs. I would do the same with sausages and ground chicken. I lived alone so I would put one portion in a sandwich bag, then put the bags in zip locks. LOL I washed and reused them too.

I posted this before, but I got my Digestive Advantage IBS from Amazon.com for $19.99 for 92 tabs. Even with postage it was cheaper than the drug store.

haha. I don't reuse ziploc bags for two of my main Frugality Principles:

#1: NEVER do anything to save money if it compromises health/safety. (You should not reuse freezer bags that had raw meat -- they are not designed for this, even if you do wash them out.)

#2: Time = money. Don't spend a lot of time to save a few pennies (i.e. four hours to make your own marshmallows when you can buy a bag for $.79). Alternately, don't spend a lot of money to save a few minutes (i.e. all those expensive Swiffer products -- like honestly how much longer does it take you to run hot water and a splash of Pine-Sol into a bucket??). To me, my time is very important and it isn't worth the effort to wash out baggies since I can get a box of them for $1.50.

#3: Money = money. Don't think "I may as well buy the brand name since it's only thirty cents more" -- think "I'll save thirty cents by buying the generic". The old cliche is true, it DOES add up.

So here are things I do to save money:

- buy generic/off-brands when at all possible with household, beauty, and food products. The most expensive makeup item I buy is my face powder, which costs $2.50.

- I don't run the air conditioner in my car or house. (but DH often puts his foot down and turns the AC on in the house)

- If I buy something and don't like it, I use it anyway.

- All of my clothes are purchased off clearance racks and from thrift stores/consignment shops. General rule of thumb is that I won't pay more than $3 for a shirt, $2 for a skirt, $10 for pants.

- I cut my own hair.

- Most of my laundry is hung up to dry instead of thrown in the dryer. (I do this inside, not outside, so can do it year-round.) I do not buy clothes that have to be dry-cleaned.

- I have a very strong sense of "want" vs "need". I will use an item until it is no longer of any use, not just until it starts getting shabby and/or until I'm sick of it.

- I make sure to treat myself, but since I don't make a habit of spending money unnecessarily, my treats are small -- a pint of soy ice cream, some IBS-safe candy, a handful of books from Goodwill's, renting a DVD. (One of these, not all!)

- My thermostat is set at 66 in the winter.

- I buy some clothing from the boys' and girls' section (bigger kids, like sizes 6-16) since they are so much cheaper.

That's all I can think of right now. My main philosophy is not to spend any money I don't have to!

I have longer, straight hair with some layers -- I just bend over, brush my hair out, and trim it. I usually get DH to double-check it and snip off anything I missed, but there typically isn't much. It was actually getting really long, but this weekend I decided I was sick of it being that long and I hacked it off. It's just below my shoulders now.

I guess if you have a short hairstyle you probably can't cut it yourself. But that's one of the reasons why I grew my hair out -- I was sick of going to the salon all the time. Plus if I am in a hurry all I do is stuff it up into a hair clip. No fussing with the blow dryer and brushes and mousse.

Wow. I'm impressed!

I do some shopping at Goodwill, too. I've found two great pairs of lined wool pants there for about $3. The last pair I found was like new and would have cost $35 or more in a regular store. I haven't had much luck with suits at thrift stores, though I have looked from time to time.

I try to buy generic or store brand as well. I can rarely tell the difference. I must admit, though, that I buy more name-brand food than before I got married, but it's usually stuff for my husband that I can't eat anymore anyway!
