Herbal Remedies? Babies & Colic

After reading over the newsletter in regards to herbs such, a question arose.
A friend of mine said she recently learned that colic is due to acid reflux in babies. If this is true, and one would not want to use "western" medicines, would something like the "Fennel Tummy Tea" work, under a physician's supervision of course?

Thank you, Selena
(Not a mommy yet, but I figured it's better to ask now)

Sorry can't help you on this one. You might get a better response on the main board.

I'm glad you asked this question. I wanted to start a post about this. I am a breastfeeding MOm of a 6 week old baby. My first child was a gassy babe and I had to avoid tons of "gas" producing foods because my milk made him VERY gassy. So my theory is this: if we are supposed to avoid foods that produce gas, why shouldn't we eat foods that ease gas? I have been taking Heather's peppermint caps for a few days now and I think I see an improvement in her. I will also try the fennel and peppermint tea.

My neighbour next door boiled ainse seeds in water and gave her a son a few drops of it. She said it worked wonders for his colic.

Another woman I talked to put peppermint drops in her kids' bottles and found it helpful.

I use an over the counter med called "Ovol" drops with Simethicone and find it helpful when she's really uncomfortable.

Anyone else have ideas or info? It would be great to get a post going on this. I think that Heather's products could be helpful for infant colic as well as IBS.
