How much is a gallon of regular unleaded in your area? You can also include additional comments about what that means to you. And for overseas friends give it in your litre amount or whatever.

Here it's $1.39/litre, or in US terms, $4.43/gallon.
By the way, I have to give props to Google for this - I didn't think it would work, but I typed in '1.39 CAD per liter in USD per gallon' - and it came up with the right answer. I knew it could do measurements, but it's cool that they incorporated currency exchange too.

$3.39 for regular. Has increased by 70 cents in 3 days. I for one am not driving anywhere unless I have to and will not fill up my tank until it is necessary. I urge anyone who does not have to drive for work to do the same. We all need to show these oil companies that they cannot rip us off! If demand falls, so does prices.

$3.19-3.29/ gallon in the Rockford, IL area. As far as I know, there have been no shortages yet. We may not go on vacation next week - at least not all the way to Michigan. My co-workers and I are considering car pooling in the near future.

$3.29 for regular here outside Pittsburgh. There were several gas stations that ran out. Also, we have a grocery store(Giant Eagle) that offers $.10 off a gallon w/each $50 purchase in their stores(which is EASY to do) and those gas stations(Get Go) that honor that discount were lined up into the streets!

IT's $1.29 a litre here in London...I have seen in slightly lower but you have to drive all around town to find the station with the lowest price (kinda self-defeating right now). Canadians, does anyone know why our gas is so much more per gallon than the US when you do the conversion? Is it because of our gas tax? I'm just floored...I live right by the border and it sounds like it would still be cheaper to drive across to fill up

I was just told that our gas in Halifax is now around $1.48/litre ($4.72/gallon USD).
And yes, the reason why it is more expensive is because the tax component is higher. However, it is an excise tax (constant amount), not an ad valorum tax (certain percentage), so the recent increases have mostly been from increases in the market price - there is no tax component. However, I say 'mostly' since they also add GST/PST/HST on top of that, the amount of which will increase as prices increase.
The flat tax itself varies by province, from .20 per litre in Alberta to .28 per litre in PEI. Then you add anywhere from 7% (Alberta again) to 15% (Maritimes) on top of that.
However, I can't really advocate lowering or getting rid of it (as many do) because most of the increase in prices are market based, and likely to exhibit a continuous upward trend anyway once this current shortage is over. A better idea would be to allocate some of the taxes as subsidies with respect to essentials such as home heating oil since it is more difficult for everyone to quickly adapt to the sudden price increases on the cost of heating their homes than it is their transportation.
Rural people are kind of out of luck in this, I know, and will likely face a greater overall increase in price levels than people in urban centres. It's unclear to me whether this can be (or to what extent it should be - is there a normative case for rural vs. urban outside of personal preference?) fixed though.

And what this means for us is that everything we do has been cut down to bare-essential level. Do we really NEED to go to the bank, which is 20 miles away, to deposit that $50 check? Do I NEED soy milk and fruit, which means having to go to the next town over to the big grocery store? No... it can wait another week.
As I've said before, it also means that Adam really can't afford to drive to work anymore. He's spending about 25% of his take-home pay on gas, and that's WITH a carpool.

...at the gas station I just went to. All in all it's still cheaper for me to drive than fly to NY next week! This is a great website, and REALLY accurate in my area: http://www.marylandgasprices.com/.
Other states have pages like this. They're a great way to cost-compare before you leave the house!

You have the option of taking public transporation don't ya? We here in Pennsylvania (well at least in the suburbs of Philly) don't have that option. I wish we did. I wouldn't mind taking a bus to the mall or somewhere. You are right though, not driving unless we have to should help in some way!

Here in small-town Iowa it's only up to $2.99 a gallon. I heard just last night though, that it was up above $5 in Georgia! Is that true?? Yikes! I don't envy any of you that are experiencing the huge increases.

Gas went up to 3.12 here yesterday but came down under 3.00 today. As some know I drive my pickup for work (meter reading in mostly rural areas) and my office was moved another 20 miles away (40 miles now). Fortunately my truck takes ethanol, but even that is pricey. E 85 was $2.59 last time I checked and only certain stations have it. I am really trying to cut back where I can. And I am still looking for local work.
