I figured I'd let you all know about my mouse and my toilet since I posted about them both.

Today, I finally fixed my toilet seat and changed it. The first attempt frustrated me so much that I said screw it and lived with the broken one for a few days (I was away from home the last 8 days.. so its not as bad as it seems, no one was using it).

Let it be said that it was a hellish task. I took me about 45 minutes of intensive labor with a screwdriver that fell in the toilet bowl twice, and pliers.

Next, I FINALLY killed a mouse.. except I was away for 8 days so lord knows when it died and there was plenty more mouse poop to take care of.

So, I bought those traps where it kills the mouse and its covered so you dont' see it. however, somehow it was leaking and smelly and gross brown liquid was all underneath it. NASTY.

I tied a pillowcase around my mouth a nose, threw on rubber gloves and lysoled the heck outta the cabinet. I also threw some poison in there to kill anymore. Anyways.. I rushed out onto the balcony with the dead mouse in the bag and I swear my neighbor pulling in thought I was a robber (with a pillowcase tied around my head)! ha

Anyways.. New question.. I'm sure its not but how can you be sure that its a mouse and not a rat as well. Some of the poops are bigger than others. Not any of them are much bigger than a cooked grain of rice, but I still want to be sure.

Hey cutie!

Gee, is this in your new condo? RATS? Oy....

Well, Girlfriend, all I know is that rats make one helluva lotta noise. If it were a rat, I think you'd hear it. I know WE did when we had a rat in the summer cottage on the lake in Oregon. He made a LOT of racket, especially scratching on the door when we locked him out! Oy.

I kinda think you shoulda looked inside that trap to see if you caught a rat or a mouse. But I'd bait another trap if I were you. AND, be sure to keep the toilet seat lid DOWN all the time; rats will climb in there and drown, and you'll have one helluva mess to clean up! (They blow up really big with all that water and wrap themselves all around the inside of the toilet, filling it up! It's really, REALLY gross! (Although, kudos to you -- you're gettin' pretty darn good at it!)

I'd also check with the neighboring condo and see if they have problems with mice or rats. BTW, you don't have any bird feeders outside, do you? They draw mice! (I found out the hard way.)

Thanks for your post about my bro. Yeah, I'm really jazzed to have my family back. Ironically, I came down with IBS right after we became estranged. Do ya think now that we're back together I'll be able to lose the IBS? Huh, do ya, maybe huh???

I should have probably peeked, but I was too grossed out and it smelled nasty!!! I'm almost 100% positive that its just a moue and not a rat because the opening to get into my trap was less than 3/4 of an inch tall and wide and it didnt' weigh a whole lot when I picked up the trap to throw it out.

Anyways LUCKILY whatever it is hasn't ventured far from this one cabinet which is sorta all by itself in a random area. They did however chew a nice little hole to get in there, but to be honest that hole may have always been there and they just use it to get in and out. The only place that hole leads is in between our walls!

I dont' have any birdfeeders or anything of the sort.. just a tiny little condo! and to be honest, if I see a rat in my toilet all puffed up i'd just about die. I hate rodents, blood and yucky stuff!

as for your bro.. I hope that the ibs does go away now! you never know! i'm sure the onset was definitly in connection to it.

*laughing* I should have remembered to tell you that the tools would fall in the toilet when tackling the seat. Sorry. At least it was only twice instead of like my happenings. Was just a horrible uncoordinated situation with me dropping just about all the different tools into the bowl. At least it was brand new and never used so I didn't have to worry to much.

I saw you responded to my last post about the screws being decorative, so I am guessing yours weren't. Haven't a clue what they were thinking when they build these things. They never consult the people who will have to replace parts to see if its easy or do able.

YUCKIES on the mouse. I am going to keep my fingers crossed for you that it isn't a rat. I agree that if it were a rat you would hear it scratching. They aren't the most discrete roommates. Hope it was just the one.

well thats good to hear because i've NEVER heard a peep from anything..

the only way I could tell something was even there was from the poop and pee I found.. but luckily I haven't heard ANYTHING! phew.

as for my screws.. they weren't decorative and were VERY hard to get out.

WELL WELL WELL..

I just looked in my other cabinet on the other side of the sink and guess what I found.

MOUSE CRAP

this cabinet is filled to the brim with a foreman grill.. cooking sheets etc (stuff I hardly ever use, so when I checked a week or two ago and didn't find droppings I figured it was fine).

ugh there is mouse crap sitting on top of my foreman and all of my other stuff in there. PLUS there is no possible way I could ever crawl in there and do a good cleaning. Its a corner cabinet so its a tiny opening and more more space in the back.

PLUS I have about 10 boxes of pasta in there. none of them open (stop and shop had a sale)... however there are lovely little mouse poop suprises on the boxes too. YUCK.

so.. do you think I should throw everything away (all the pasta bc there is poop on the boxes) and as for the pots and pans.. is running them through the dishwasher enough.

Also.. any tips on how to repair any cracks that may be found in my wall. I read you could buy some polyurethane foam to repair cracks and holes.. anyone heard of this.

ugh.. now i'm deathly afraid to remove everything from this cabinet because I'm scared a million mice will once again fly out at me. WHY ME

my mom thinks its ok to just remove the pasta from the boxes and put them in tupperware.

she says that she's sure that a heck of alot more mouse crap has been on that box in its life in grocery store warehouses etc.

anyone else have any opinions?
