The realtor showed us another townhouse today. It was the same floorplan as the other one we liked. In a great location. An end unit (only one neighbor!) and it was at a good price.
But the owners---once again---have a cat, of which I'm highly allergic to.
Dang cat! It followed us around, wanting us to pet it. I was so angry that I thought about kicking it. (Not really....but I if it had helped, I would've!)
It seems like everyone in this town owns at least one cat. I'm getting so discouraged.
Ideally, we could pick out a new townhouse, but all of the new ones they're building have the master bedroom upstairs, and we're trying to get away from that because of my back problems.
Dang it! We've got the house ready to put on the market, and we're ready to downsize, but we can't find a place without a cat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can completely understand not wanting to take the risk with such a significant financial investment.
Try to be patient. There has to be a cat-hater out there somewhere who's selling!

No, having the carpets cleaned and the air ducts won't keep an allergy sufferer from problems. It's not the cat hair that's the problem. It's cat dander, and with cats, it's worse than with other pets. Because cats spend 90 percent of their time licking themselves, the cat dander flies through the air and gets on everything----including the walls and ceilings. It takes YEARS to get rid of it.
The allergist says even if we ripped up the carpets and put wood floors down, I could still have problems.

BL-
I know that when I worked at a realtors office a couple years back we had a couple who came in looking for their first house. Their daughter had been mauled by a dog a few years back and was terrified of them and would have a panic attack at the sight or sound of a dog...even puppies. We had to call all the agents for the listings to find out if there was a dog in the house prior to her going to the house with her parents. The agents were more than understanding to tell us if there was a dog and take care of it considering the situation. I am wondering if your realtor would be kind enough to preview the homes by talking with the listing agent about if there are cats. It might save you time in looking at models that were cat free rather than the infest homes.
I hope that helps. I know my girlfriend is extremely allergic and has her asthma act up on top of the reaction so I am completely understanding. Although if you want the cat like behavior of playing with yarn and batting things...I could loan you my dog. She just thinks she is a cat.
Good luck with the house hunting.

I know, my realtor, should've asked if there was a cat before we went to look at it, but she got so excited that she forgot. She is a former neighbor and good friend of ours.
From now on, she will ask BEFORE we go look!
She just wanted my husband to see this particular floor plan so if another one like it becomes available, we can jump on it! Anything nice that comes on the market is snatched up so fast that you really don't have much time to think about it. So we're trying to do our homework ahead of time.
Now that we know we like the floor plan and the area, we just have to wait for a CAT-LESS one to come on the market!!!!

Here's hoping for a cat free, great condition, reasonably priced, got to sell and get out of town place for you.
