I read in an article in the paper last week about housing, and it said Seattle's housing is some of the most expensive in the country. I'm curious. How much is it there per square foot for a new house?

We are looking here to downsize and are getting very discouraged because we will have to pay a lot MORE for LESS. We looked 6 months ago and decided to wait until our son went off to college, and in the meantime, townhomes have gone up $30,000 to $50,000.

For my health (my back problems), I need to get out of this big house! But it seems crazy to have a higher mortgage for a smaller and not as nice a place.

BL,

Shell sent me a link to you question and asked me to reply

I dont know the answer to that off the top of my head. I know the Average price is about 370,000.00. Thats normally 3 bed 2 bath and about 1500 sq ft. The article in the paper was referring to price vs income. Most of CA and NY is more expensive per sqare, but incomes are higher.

only 30 to 50 thousand for a townhome? Where do you live! I'm moving!

Townhomes here are anywhere from 200 to 500 thousand!

Thanks for the clarification! That would have been such a great deal...a town home for only 50,000 dollars!

Or I wasn't making much sense! I meant that townhomes have increased in value $30,000 to $50,000 in the past 6 months.

You can't get a decent townhouse in my part of town unless you pay at least $400,000. Some of the new ones are selling for $1.5 million!!!
