I have a HUGE nodule. And I just felt it and it has grown AGAIN! The endo. in Miami said if keeps growing he'll need to remove it!

I'm terrified of surgery. I must make an appointment though, and soon, cause it prob has to come out!

I realize this means I will need to find an endo. out here in AZ who I can trust to do the surgery as staying with my fam right now is a BAD idea!

Yikes! MORE on my plate.

I know I'm jumping to conclusions...but like I said...doc said if keeps growing it's gotta come out...and it feels like a GOLF BALL!

So...if you have advice, words of comfort, or stories to tell (PLEASE include things to do in the event of sugery to help with pain), I would be sooo thankful! I WILL get it checked...but I know myself...I feel better when I'm prepared...

I love you guys...thanks in advance!

Love, your anxious friend,
Ruch

Hey Ruchie,

I don't have any personal experience but I do have a friend who had thyroid surgery (can't remember if she had the whole thing removed or just operated on). Anyways, if you don't get any responses I can ask her for some info if you'd like

Kelly

P.S. Did you get my email?

Adam's oldest brother had his thyroid removed... gosh, don't even know how many years ago now. He's on medication for life, but he's *perfectly fine* - no problems at all.

I don't know him super well, but I can ask Adam to ask him a few things, if you want to know more about his experiences.

*big hugs* to you!

Ruchie,

My grandpa had his removed back in the 60s because it was cancerous, and he was fine. I'm thinking it must be a fairly routine surgery if they've been doing it that long. Hope that eases your mind a bit!

Hugs,

Ahh, Ruchie, I don't know anything about thryoids, but you can't have a golf ball sticking out of it! i know you don't want ot think about surgery, but you need to have a doctor check it out. That could be dangerous, if left untreated, couldn't it?

Hope you get some answers soon.

I had my thyroid removed in Dec. 1999. I didn't require much pain medication after the surgery, my neck just felt a little tight but I wasn't in extreme pain. It was removed b/c it was cancerous so I req'd a radiation drink in Feb. 2000 to kill off any remaining cells. Everything went well and I was perfectly fine. I'm now taking a thyroid hormone replacement (1 pill/day) and seeing a Thyroid Specialist every six mos. to monitor my blood work to make sure everything is ok.

Good luck,
Jenn

Thank you sooo much!

Are you pain-sensative? You sound VERY brave!

I can't thank you enough for this info... *hugs*

I think she had it done before I was born, because I can't remember her having it removed. She has to take medicine for it, but besides that is fine!

Don't worry! Like someone else said, they've been doing this proceedure for a long time, so I think they've gotten it down by now.

I bet you'll feel a lot better when this is taken care of.

Hugs,
Myra

Hey Ruchie,

Glad you got my email I was just concerned that the title of the website might be offensive...but I've just found it to have wonderful information.

I'm doing ok, thanks for asking. Hanging in there anyways...I see my regular doctor tomorrow to get the official report from the psychiatrist and talk about meds.

How's it going for you with the Lamictal? Hopefully good

Kelly

My blood levels are PERFECTLY NORMAL! So if they remove it...I doubt they'll remove my thyroid, just the nodules I have. Which means no pill...just surgery. For now anyway...I am more prone to develop hypothyroidism with this nodule PLUS it runs in my fam. But it truly is no big deal..at least that's what I keep hearing I'm still chicken though! so for those who offered info. from friends/family PLEASE get back to me. I want to know what the recovery was like...and how much pin people were in, how long they were out of work, etc. Thanks!!!

Kelly...so far just tired with the Lamictal. But it's only been a few hours. We still have 2 months of waiting to do *sigh* Trying not to think about it..I made the decision to meds...now I just have to keep praying and try to relax while I wait it out...

Tanks for thinking of me and for all your support everyone! *hugs and hugs*
