I know that I have posted a while ago about the possibility of having fibro. My PCP thinks it is a good possibility due to the fact that I have migraines, IBS, am absolutely exhausted and have a really hard time with sleep.

Monday, I started feeling really bad. Nothing in particular, just felt bad. Yesterday I woke up and my thumb joint on my R hand was swollen and absolutely throbbing. My neck and shoulders have been killing me. I also had a fever between 99 - 101 all day yesterday. I stayed in bed until 4pm.

I just need the expertise of the fibromites here. Thanks for any help. My PCP gave me Skelaxen for my muscle pain, but I was having to take Percocet yesterday.

Thanks,
Joy

Sorry Joy, I, thankfully, don't have Fibro but wanted to say I hope you feel better soon!! Isn't there a definitive test or something they can do to tell you for sure whats going on??

So far all of the tests are normal. Which is pretty common in fibro. It is much more of a rule out diagnosis. Sound familiar? Thanks!

Oh boy! You'd think with all the medical advances today, I mean they can transplant a human heart for crying out that! That they would be able to have some definitive tests for things like fibro and fertility, just to mention a couple!!!! Have you been to an arthritis specialist?

Not yet. I have been dealing with my PCP since I have been out of work so much due to migraines. That is the next thing on my list.

Thanks!

I hope you can get your migraines under control. They were ruining my life back when I was a teenager, but by age 14 I had ruled out my triggers and thankfully they haven't come back. I took out bright lights, honey, mollasses, chewing gum or chewing anything else for long periods of time, plus a bunch of other non-food triggers like exercise in cold weather and prolonged exposure to noise and heat.

Now the biggest fibro obstacles I have are the constant sinus troubles, back pain, ibs, cold hands+feet+butt+knees, and major fatigue.

I'm a big advocate of "Whatever Works," so my advice to you is if you find something that works, STICK WITH IT, no matter what anybody else says. Good luck to you,

~nelly~

Hmm...get the hand checked out. Inflammation is NOT part of Fibro, tho it can make you think your joints/glands/whatever ARE swollen when they're not. Stiffness is a major part of Fibro tho.

Take Tylenol regularly to keep your temperature down. And Tylenol-Extra is probably the best OTC painkiller for Fibro so I use that to hit two birds with one stone as it were.

Oh and I totally agree with Nelly...whatever works! Chronic pain is far worse for you than painkillers (as long as you take them according to instructions).

If I were you, I'd get a magnesium/malic acid/manganese supplement. I use Malic Relief which is recommended specifically for Fibro. And try feverfew...I know Ruchie takes it. I keep on meaning to try it - it's for migraines and general pain. Oh and get whatever you can to help you sleep better, even if it's just Valerian.

And, IF YOU CAN, do yoga, even if only for five minutes + relaxation. It's great for Fibro if you can physically do the first stretch.

Thanks for the advice. The hand is better today. It's still a little sore, but much better. I have been taking Tylenol. It helped with the fever.

I have a doc appt next Wednesday so I hope we can at least discuss a few things. I do have a magnesium supplement that I was taking for my migraines, but I have slacked off on taking it. I will try to start that again.

I try to do a little exercise everyday. I am trying to get into the habit of doing yoga everyday, but it is hard. There are sometimes I just feel like absolute crap and it takes everything I have to even move.

But even just a couple of stretches or hobbling around for a few minutes can help prevent you stiffening up even more.

With the magnesium, make sure it's magnesium malate for Fibro as you need the malic acid from the malate bit as well. And manganese is also helpful.

Tylenol Extra is a great OTC med for Fibro.
