Hi all, I'm a newbie to this website as well as IBS. I have Glatossemia (sp), which means I'm allergic to anything milk wise. Can't have ice cream, milk, candy bars, sour cream, yogert, etc. I can have anything soy. Thank you Heather for putting together this website.
I have so many questions to ask, but before I ask them I will continue to look for them on Heather's website. I do have some tips to add to the website. 1. I suck on peppermint candy after dinner to feel better. And 2. If anyone has D or Hemeroids (sp), then wet the toilet paper before you use it. Not only will it feel good, but it'll reduce and/or prevent hemeroids in the first place.
I hope these tips are helpful. I also hope I can contribute more in the future.
BTW, hello everyone. I am glad I found this website.

Yep, peppermint candy (as long as it's the old-fashioned stuff with just sugar and peppermint oil) is great - I know Altoids are very popular.
Try flushable wet wipes as well for D and hemms. They're *lovely* on a sore bott! And the tp with aloe in it is good too.

Are you a college student? If so, what are you studying?

We accept any tips! I've learned so much from this website simply by other's that offer tips.
Altoids are my friend! I carry them in my purse at all times (along with my Bentyl) and wipies.....have not stopped buying them and my youngest is 7. (Used to only by them for diaper changes and have never stopped!)

Thank you all. Not a collage student, but am looking to go back to collage this fall. Wet wipes? I'll remember that for any trips I take. Sorry, it's Brach's hard candies. I'll have to switch to Altoids too.
I haven't gone to the diet yet, but I have started using Benefiber. It says take 3 tablets 5xs a day. Do I really have to? I don't trust it. I'm taking 2 tablets 3xs a day and so far it's okay. I get D sometimes but otherwise I don't feel bad from it. I will start up the dosage soon. Any thoughts?
Now I've been watching my diet, but some places don't always offer grilled food. I'd eat salads if they weren't on the bad foods list. What do I do? I'd hate to go on a date and have the need to use the restroom at some point of the date. That also goes for church and any other important thing. Plus, I think the wafers the church gives out is made with milk or wheat. BTW, grilled salmon is great!!!
Anyway, thank you again for letting me sound off.

My advice would be to really follow the diet right now. Get yourself stable for awhile...once you know your body better, you'll feel more comfortable at church, on dates, etc. Sit in an aisle seat at church!
As far as restaurants go, most places will have SOMETHING you can eat - as long as you ask for things on the side, or omit the cheese, etc. Try looking at menus online first, so you are more comfortable when you get there, and you know what you want already. Only go places that you know have something 'safe' to eat. Also - eat a lot of bread before you eat dinner! Just make sure it's just plain french bread.
I think that somewhere on this site is a list of restaurants and safe choices...maybe you could do a search for it?
Good luck!
Oh - and you're doing fine with the fiber, but I would definately increase your dose. Just do it gradually, go up a little every week.
