I can't thank you enough for telling me about Donnatal. I just took my first pill and it's a miracle. I haven't taken any more medication and have just polished off a plate of 4 pieces of cooked sushi with rice in 90 degree heat with 81% humidity in tight jeans (have I mentioned all my triggers??!?), and I feel like my stomach doesn't even exist. It's not that I'm not in pain, it's that I don't have a stomach anymore. It must be gone, because I can't feel it. At all. Is this what normal people feel....???
Anyway, thank you.
I never knew this Rx existed until you mentioned it to me last year when I was having an attack at work. My doc gladly drew me up a Rx for it, plus a refill, when I mentioned I'd heard about it through my Support Group.
I know sometimes meds work best at first, then after a month they stop working. I hope this is not one of those drugs. *fingers crossed!*
Bev, you're a princess among friends!! Thank you. -Nelly

Bev is the greatest! It helps so much to have someone who has been there, done that(!) to guide you. These boards are great for that and today I really feel like I'm a takin' more than I'm a givin'.

and it looks pretty good! Lots of information, including stuff about trigger foods and stress management and stuff - very good.
I'm so glad you found something that really, really helps! Do you take it on the every 12 hour thing, or as needed or...? Maybe I will ask for a prescription when I see the new GI doc this month if you can take it as needed as I get some pretty bad pain attacks where I don't have anything I can really do.
Thanks for sharing! So glad you are feeling good! --Steph

Hi Nelly! I'm so glad you've found something that is helping!!! I don't know much about donnatal, but meds that work are meds that are our friends!!! You know - I've wondered that same thing before about what exactly does "normal" feel like! Here's hoping that we'll both find it soon!
For me - just yesterday I stepped up my dose of imuran again. I'm now on 75 mg and my doctor eventually wants me up to 125 mg. So far, not naucious and less pain in the mornings, so these are good things!
Enjoy the hot weather - nice that you can with the new medicine.
Hugs! Min

I'm guessing this is something you can't take when you're pregnant?? I'm definately going to check this out afterwards because your symptoms are a lot like mine Nelly! Thanks!

Gee. GEE! GEE!
Thanks, Guys. You make me feel GOOOOOOD.
Nelly, I'm so glad the Donnatal is working for you. I've been swearin by this stuff for years. Take caution, though, because it's a barbiturate, which "can cause confusion, delirium, short-term memory problems, disorientation, and impaired attention." "Physical effects include dry mouth, constipation, difficulty urinating, blurred vision, decreased sweating with increaed body temperature, sexual dysfunction, and worsening of glaucoma." "One hazard of taking Donnatal continuously for longer than several weeks is addiction." ("Worst Pills, Best Pills II," p. 349.)
I use it ONLY in emergencies; my prescriptions always end up needing to be thrown out because they've expired. My doc keeps telling me to USE it, but I only "USE IT" when I'm doubled-over. Over-the-counter Equalactin is my preferred tummy rumbling med. It's just when the Equalactin doesn't work that I turn to the Donnatal.
I'm SOOOO happy that I've helped you, Nelly. That makes me feel really good. Thanks for the post. (And you too, S-S!) {{{{Hugs}}}}
