Hi, im wondering what people with IBS use for chronic pain? I find that motrin just rips the gut, causing all kinds of problems, as u probably already know. I was told to use motrin, because it is better for reducing swelling and inflamation, instead of tylenol. Ive tried so many things. Thanks!

Well, if you're talking specifically for IBS pain, personally, I haven't found anything that works better than peppermint. Peppermint oil capsules are stronger than the tea, but even the tea calms my spasms and cramps right down.
For other pain, unfortunately, all I can take is acetaminophen (Tylenol and other products that contain it). It doesn't always do the trick - fortunately I'm tough, I just stick it out and wait for the pain to go away on its own. For the really wicked sinus pain I get, I can occasionally take Nyquil and it doesn't kill me.

Ultracet is a prescription pain medication that is tylenol based and its not as addictive as things like Vicodin so most dr's will prescribe it! I can't take any of the nsaids drugs like motrin, they make my tummy worse!

I'm on Rx loperimide for the D attacks and long-term pain management for the rest. Opioids work best if you're a raging D, like me. Vicodin, percocet, and codiene are fantastic for pain, and they constipate. Tylenol-3 with codiene is my favorite, because unlike the other opioids they don't give withdrawls. Nelly hates withdrawls!!
Ultram and tylenol did absolutely nothing for me, and others like vicoprofen which has ibuprofen ripped up my gut. Anything with aspirin and ibuprofen are really bad for your stomach, and if you're like me, will start an attack on their own. You want to stick with acetominophen (paracetamol)-based otcs.
As with most things, pain management is very personal, and subject to change over time. It's also very much trial and error!! Good luck to you--

So the big plus of the NSAIDs is no help at all. Tylenol or Tylenol Plus (contains codeine) would be best OTC I think.
