So I come home the other night and a package has arrived in the mail.
I am curious, because I love packages but sadly, it is not for me.
Later on, I am just sitting on the couch, minding my own business and my mom is opening the package. "What is it?" I ask. "They are... supplements... for people on.. high-carb diets..." she says as she pulls two big pill bottles from the package. "They are for me?" I ask, suprised as she never discussed ordering any such 'supplements' for me. "Yeah," my Dad laughs, "They're called "Fat Blasters"".
So embarassed and offended, I take the bottle and look at it. It is basically caffeine. I say, "I can't take these, they are almost all caffeine and I can't have caffiene". She says okay.
Now, don't get me wrong, I realise that I may have some extra fat that needs 'blasting' but how RUDE was that??? Who orders their DAUGHTER pills called "Fat Blasters"?? To me now, it's amusing but also pretty insulting!
So anyway, I took the hint and have now made an appointment to get a program set up for me at my gym and will try to go more often to 'blast the fat' my own way. Still, sheeesh! Just a little glimpse into my family life, ha ha.
Anyway, gotta go eat some more! Just kidding. I think you're all gorgeous, by the way, and don't let anybody make you think otherwise!! --Steph

I think just the name Fat Blasters makes it something you can't buy for someone else. Totally rude. But totally a parent thing to do. As long as you are feeling good, don't let anyone tell you that you need to look differently. Have fun at the gym.

My dad called me a fat pig. I was going through puberty and I was a bit chunky as my body was adjusting to the changes it was going through. I was about 9 or 10 years old.
I became anorexic soon after that comment...
Steph...you have a VERy good attitude and you are a healthy individual that you are able to laugh about all of this...please recognize that about yourself. You are VERY strong!!!
If only I had known then what I know now...maybe I could have laughed too...
*sigh*
PLEASE know how absolutely GORGEOUS you are inside and out Steph...and that we all love ya *big hugs*

Yikes not a thing you want to hear! Parents can really be dense sometimes when it comes to being sensitive to their kids. As long as you are happy with yourself that is all that matters!

It is one thing for your parents to want you to be healthy, another thing for htem to buy you unsafe pills with such a horrible name! I feel even worse for the people that are suckered into using "fat blaster" pills themselves. What were they thinking??? Go along with your own plan and forget everyone else, only you can make this happen for yourself, and you will when you are ready!

high carb is not a bad thing! weight has nothing to do with what type of diet but rather how much you eat!

I can relate to that... my dad called me "Baby Beluga" once and didn't understand why I left in a hurry. Oof. Parents.

Push the pills toward him and say:
"No, dad, they clearly say VIAGRA. Oh, soooo sorry."
or: "Then why do they have a picture of YOU on it?"

My BMI was 14, and my mother said I had a potbelly and I should diet. I was 19 and still remember it like it was yday!
To properly screw kids up, it takes PARENTS!
You'll always be a skinny kid to me, sweetie. Here, have a doughnut. You poor thing, you don't eat enough. Here, try on this size 4 I knitted for you! That fits great!! It's so baggy in the arms, though! Here, have that doughnut now, Steph!

OMG. How rude & insulting. I would be very put out if my folks did something like that. Not to mention the fact that they must not understand IBS if they get something full of caffeine like that!

My folks are the same way...insensitive. Once, my mother bought me a dress that was short and strapless. Well, it is against my religion to expose my shoulders and my legs above the knees. When I said "thanks, but I can't wear that," she got really offended and stomped around for the rest of the day. Parents seem to think they know what's best for us all the time and end up offending us sometimes.
She's also told me that I needed to lose weight, usually when I really need to gain weight. The irony is that she is very overweight. Of course, I would never say anything to her about her weight...that would be mean...besides, most people already know if they need to lose, telling us to lose weight isn't going to make us say "gee, I had no idea I was out of shape, I'm so glad my mother pointed that out for me."
