So I saw the surgeon yesterday for my breast reduction and after lots of thought and a long talk I've decided to go ahead with the surgery.

I've set the date for September 29 so that I have some time to prepare for it. He said I could have it done as early as one month from now but I'd rather not rush it.

I'm so excited and nervous at the same time. I told him how I absolutely under no circumstances want to throw up. I know when they put you out for surgery sometimes you react to the stuff and it makes you throw up. He listened to my concerns and promised me he would give me ALL 3 of the anti-nausea drugs at the maximum doses....but then proceeded to tell me that sometimes they don't work on people no matter how much you give them and he has had patients that just "heave all night long". LOVELY!!

I tell you guys....I'm not scared of the pain, the scarring, the healing, being put out, ANYTHING....I am only terrified of throwing up when I wake up from surgery. How pathetic and stupid does that sound??

Anyway....just wanted to share the news!!

Hi Kimm - I just had implants and a breast lift last Monday. Surgery was about 2 hours - I took vicodin for two days. After that I was/am uncomfortable..I didn't want to take anymore Vicodin because it makes me "c". I got my stitches out last Thursday and everyday gets a little better. I also had to take an antibiotic - I think that was the worst part (the last two days of it gave me "d"). Hugs - I am sure you will do fine:-)

I think its great you finally decided to do this!! I've been "put under" several times just in the last year. I ALWAYS have them give me the anti-nausea drugs and I've never thrown up, thankfully! One other thing to talk to him about BEFORE the surgery is what pain medication you will be sent home with. I didn't know that Codiene upset me and was given it after my gall bladder surgery and a few years ago and THAT did make me throw-up. I know that I can tolerate Darvocet and Vicodin just fine so I always ask for one of those instead of the tylenol with Codiene!

As was mentioned before, most pain pills cause C so you may want to have some stool softners on hand, just in case!!

I would try not to worry about it. I came through my surgery just fine (c-section but they put me out). Most people don't react to the anaesthesia at all. You should be just fine. Good luck with the surgery!

Good luck Kimm! I know that you were thinking of this for awhile, right? Don't be embarrassed about the throwing up concerns, I think that is BETTER that that is the only thing you are afraid of going into surgery.

Lots of hugs being sent your way!

And any phobias are NOT pathetic...plus throwing up is something NO-ONE likes! Personally, I've never had any problems.

Can he give you anti-emetics as well as anti-nausea drugs? I'd pack some ginger just in case!

Good for you. I'd kill for a breast reduction! I SOOOO need it. I'm sick and tired of these bulbous monsters pulling me down, causing my bra straps to dig into my shoulders and bouncing uncontrollably whenever I move.

When I was last in the hospital, locked in the bathroom, kneeling on the floor, heaving up my guts while pooping all over the floor at the same time (sorry guys), I focused on all the weight I was losing. Okay, maybe that's the way to do it, but it took my mind off the puking.

Well, now that I've grossed out all of you, I'm outta here....

Kimm, you ROCK!

one of my bestr friends had breast reduction about five years ago, she hasn't looked back, She had 34GGs and now has a neat 34C. The surgery does take a while to recover from but she certainly doesn't regret it.

ANy surgery is scary Kimm but this is really a lifechanging one. Rooting for you!

Kim, I understand your fear of throwing up. I have a fear of that, too. Every time I get nauseated I get so worried that I might throw up. I haven't thrown up for several years so I don't know why I'm worried about it either.

Anyway, I had an appendectomy & two childbirths and all three times I was nauseated after the anesthesia. BUT, I never threw up. And after my appendectomy they gave me a shot of something when I told them I was nauseated and having dry heaves and it stopped the nausea dead in it's tracks.

I bet you will do great!

Wishing you the best of luck.

Hi Kimm,
I am so glad you've figured everything out - you are so lucky! I want to get one too, but I am still waiting for my consultation appointment and even if I get approved, the waiting time here is a minimum of a year and a half!
Do you know how much of a reduction you are getting?

Any info on your experiences would be really helpful for me!
Thanks!
**hugs**

Try not to worry too much about throwing up. I've had many surgeries and I've never thrown up from any of them! Wow, I know you've made the right decision for yourself, I'll be thinking of you on the day (and will have fingers crossed you don't get sick!).

I am a 36 D right now....I know it doesn't sound as big as some people but I'm only 5'3" and have a really tiny frame so it's really huge for me.

I'm going down to a big B small C.

Why such a long wait??? You should come to Toronto, you could get it done within months!!

I'm going from a 36D to a big B small C

I can't wait for them to be all cute and small!!

Let me know if you want some info because I've done LOADS of research.

You'll be fine. I lost a breast, and I didn't throw up after surgery. Today's meds are made to give you complete comfort. Just be sure when you go to the surgical floor the orders for pain control are written. Trust me, you DO want to do this for yourself! I remember asking for an epidural but for breast surgery it's not "doable" because they can't deaden us that high very well. I did have it for some other surgeries, and it was great. I like saving my brain cells whenever possible. Good luck on the surgery.

Thanks!! I actually know a couple of people who have had this surgery done and both of them told me that the pain really isn't that bad at all.

I have a pretty high tolerance for pain so that's not the part that worries me. I had 4 wisdom teeth pulled and never took 1 pain killer so it's not the pain I'm worried about.....I just hope I don't throw up!! Eeeek!!

Thanks for the reassurance!!

36 D is big. I am a 36 C and I sometimes find that's too big for my tiny frame so I can't imagine being a whole cup size bigger. I think if you go down a cup size you'll be happy.

I'm a 34 DDD on a 5 ft 2 frame. Do you think they'd consider me?

Ummm YES!!!!!!!!!!

This is what they'll want to determine before hand though...

How much pain are you getting?
Are your breasts large because they are composed of mostly fat or are they mostly breast tissue? If it's mostly fat then they will probably tell you to lose weight and they will shrink (and then get a lift or something) but if it's mostly breast tissue then the reduction is a good choice.

They'll also want to know whether you're planning to have kids, etc.

There are soooo many things....but at a consultation the surgeon should be able to answer all of your questions.

This is exciting news! I know you are nervous, but I'm sure you will be thankful you went through this. I wouldn't worry about throwing up. My son had surgery twice and I had it once. They gave us the anti-nausea medicine, and we never even felt sick. You will do fine!

She also is so frightened of throwing up she avoids surgery. Maybe have the surgery in the later morning or afternoon so you can fast longer, and afternoons are not so queasy. Good luck!
