Hey Guys,

I'm so sick of hearing "If it's not better call us in a week" from my doctors office! I've had a sinus infection for going on four weeks, and each week I've been at the doctors, they've examined me, and told me it should respond to treatment any day, and if it's any better next week come back. I keep going back, spending half my day in the waiting room and getting told the same thing! So frustrating!

Today I got to see a more senior doctor and she at least sent me for a head x-ray to see if maybe something else is going on, and gave me some cortosteroid nasal spray to try, but I'll likely never get to see her again and she just said the same thing about coming back next week if nothing improves.

I just want it to get better and I'm getting really bummed

Move to the States!

(Just kidding, Girlfriend, just kidding. I don't want hate mail from all you Canucks!)

Save your pennies, Sweetie, and make that appointment with Michele's doctor. Okay?

Have you tried putting your foot down and just saying "no, I've been told to come back for weeks and nothing is helping"?
My mum had all sorts of problems when my brother was a baby. He was losing weight, had been diagnosed with a variety of problems and put on special diets and continued to get worse. Finally she got him on a train, went to the children's hospital in Sydney, sat in the ED and refused to leave until they fixed him. He was diagnosed with malnutrician thanks to all the diets the other doctors had put him on and was well and healthy within a week! Big hugs though. It's very frustrating. I hope you get somewhere soon and I agree with Bev. Get yourself in to see Michelle's doctor asap.

I have terrible white coat syndrome, I go in there all pumped to stand up for myself, and then they tell me to just wait another week and I shrink off like it doesn't matter...it's one of my serious character flaws. I do hope to be booking an appointment with Michele's doc soon...in the meantime, if it doesn't improve this week I think I'll just have to bring someone with me next time I go to help me stand up to them!

I'd do it myself. I'd take you in there and demand someone do something about it instead of sending you home with more false promises! Grrr. Makes me so mad (for you!).

Those docs are so intimidating. It's like when they put on that white coat they become these scary, authoritative, nonapproachable people.

I forget what I want to say, or chicken out because they are so intimidating to me. I know this is just because I have had bad doctorss. A caring doctor with a white coat would probably break the spell of the white coat syndrome!

I hate my doctors!!!!!!!!! I have the same experiences as you. It leaves me feeling frustrated, not important, desperate, and angry. We are in pain and they should recognize our dependence on their expertise and answers. Not push us aside to bide some time. A week for us is an eternatiy when in pain.

I called a GI doc for an appointment because I am such horrid pain and he can't see me until Aug. 23rd!!!

Oh well, guess he doesn't think my pain is a priority. Not like he's living like this for the next 7 months! Wish these docs could get a little of their own medicine!

I don't know maybe it is the NYer in me but there is no way I am going to let some doctor give me the runaround. I don't care if he went to med school and I only have a bachelors degree. Don't talk down to me buddy. I remember the first GI Dr. I went to. WHat a pompous jerk. He wouldnot listen to me. So, I went and got a new Dr. but wanted the records he had on me. The office was giving me a hard time about that. So, I called them up and gave them a choice "I said fax my file to my new Doctor or I am going to go down to your office and pick them up." And followed that by saying "Trust me, you want to fax the file and not have me come down there." The file was faxed in 10 minutes to my new Doctor. You have to play hardball with these people. ITS YOUR HEALTH!!

You know what's good, Vicam? Write everything down while your head is clear and you're away from those nasty docs. Then just whip out the paper and start reading-- it doesn't matter if it starts out in a trembly voice or if your voice is very small... as you read through everything, your symptoms, your continued lack of care, your frustrations and your PAIN, the doc will realize this is important enough to you to confront him with it, and you will get through to him!!

I freeze up and it's typical of me to smack my head in the parking lot afterwards telling myself Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! for forgetting half of my symptoms and not pushing for different medications, etc. It's totally normal, I think.

I didn't think to say this cause I've always done it. Whenever I go to the doctor I take a list of all my questions and complaints and I read through every single one of them so that I don't forget anything or get so nervous I go blank. Try this! It really works.
