DH and I have talked about adopting again (Cassi is 24, she was 13 when I adopted her).... an older child- probably 5-8, etc.. but first I was laid off, then we had the fire.. he had said we weren't even going to bring the topic back up for discussion until we had been in the new house a year. He told me yesterday that if I really want to do this sooner, as soon as we get moved (still have to sell this one and buy another house) we can start the process of home studies and interviews, etc.. and then start looking for a child in the system to bring home.

I brought the subject up because I thought one of the houses he really liked wouldn't work because there wasn't room in it for us and a child and he agreed with me!!! we need 4 bedrooms or 3 plus a study somewhere... my craft room/home office for my craft business, his home office and a room for us and one for a child! we are going to be more careful and picky about houses we look at in that regard as well as prior concerns, and he gave me permission to start looking in the available children DB officially.. even though we can't act on those without a finished up to date homestudy.

Thats so exciting!!! Can you tell me a little about the process of adopting a child? And and estimate of the costs involeved and the time frain it takes? I'm still hopefully I can carry my own baby but if not, I would want to check into adoption.

I'm sure an older child who is not the cutesy baby is really fearing that they may not have the privelege of having a real home because so many couples want babies.

That's awesome that you have already given a family to a 12 year old in the past. You and DH would be a gift to another older child.

Do you have any other children besides Cassi?

Hi Michele. I miss you! My boss is off Friday through Mon so I'll be able to get on the boards more during the day. Cat's away, mouse will play! Heck they don't pay me enough anyhow. I know, still no justification for playing on work hours. But that's something my conscience is willing to live with!

if you adopt and older or special needs child FROM MI IN MI it can be completely subsidized by the state... check out MARE (mare.org).. infant waits can be years, and also note that adoption costs vary depending on what you do.. in state local adoptions are relatively inexpensive, but out of state or international adoptions can cos as much as 50-60K!

I was wondering Beth, I hadn't seen you around in a while! I play at work too!! Once I get all my wokr done, I figure its fine!!

We may look into adoption in the future. I'm willing to give having my own baby another try depending on what all my tests show. I'm hoping its just a hormonal issue that can be treated! Amie, did they ever find out why you couldn't carry?

genetics.. we both have screwed up genes.. and genetic issues.. I am a carrier for crohns, and some other stuff and DH has genetic rickets.. and their call is that we have a 25% chance of my carrying a child to term and only a 10% chance fo that child being fully healthy.. given those odds.. I gave up in a heartbeat.. but both of my miscarriages (with Bill, I had a third prior to that) were later then yours and the fetus had obvious deformities

That is wonderful. Wow. You guys are so giving. I hope it all goes well for you and your dream house pops up soon (and of course that your current one sells). Keep us updated. I look forward to hearing about it.

You may want to take a peek at local adoption agencies in your area. They will give you all of the particulars. There are many different programs out there and you will find the one that fits you the best.

I would recommend doing your homework now...we chose to adopt after 5 years of not being able to get/stay pregnant. By the time that I had given up becoming pregnant, doing the adoption agency search was a little depressing...it would have been nice to have the general info prior to our starting. However, I have two pre-teens that I wouldn't trade for the world. I could not have made a child more suited for me than my daughter (talk about a mini-me!) and my son is a blessing as well.

God has blessed me with precious children and I know that He will do the same for you...one way or another!

part of why she's asking me is we live about 30 miles or so apart... but your right and I am focused on organizations out of Ann Arbor, and she may want something closer to home... also I am avoiding all religious organizations except stars of david and not looking at infant adoptions at all...

good resource sites out there:

mare.org (MI adoption resource)
adoptuskids.org
adoptex.org
adopting.com

among others.. there are more then I can list.. and talking to other adoptive parents. I just emailed a friend who is an adoptive parent in town about contacts locally for myself to get back involved in that community.
