Hey Guys,

I have no idea if someone will be able to answer this for me, but I'm wondering if someone could ballpark for me how much it would cost to go to a walk-in or something similar in the US to see a doctor to obtain a prescription? Long story short, I need a prescription for a drug that's only available in the US, and my drug company will pay and everything, but US pharmacies won't fill a prescription written by a Canadian doctor, so I actually have to get a US doctor to write it for me. Any ideas?

Kelly

I bet you are looking at $80.00 minimum! You may want to call and few different clinics and ask there office visit price because it can very greatly!! Some dr's wont write scripts without running a bunch of tests but if you brought your records with you that may make it cheaper!

I agree it's about $80, plus tests. Most doctors will want to run their *own* tests, even if you have paperwork.

I'd call and speak to the clinic in advance.. are you looking at coming over at windsor/detroit??? or somewhere else? we're about an hours drive, but I have coworkers who live near detroit and can check to see if any of them know anyone or have a recomendation on a place to have it done.

Hey,
I'd probably rather go to Port Huron as it's closer to me (I'd be coming from Sarnia). Do you know anyone in that area? Would I just go to a walk-in likely or a hospital? This sucks that it has to be so difficult

Hey,
For you guys who said that a lot of docs won't write sripts without doing tests, do you think would be the case for an anti-depressant? Because there really aren't any "tests" you can do for that?

Most general docs won't write scripts for ADs. Your doc would give you a referral for a specialist (psychaitrist) who'd write you that Rx.

I wouldn't go to a hospital, it will cost a LOT more money. If you are looking for AD's you will probbaly have better luck at a general practioners office or even an internist. Most walk in style clinics won't give Rx's for things like that. They do mostly sprained ankles, colds and flu, sinus infections that kinda thing.

I don't know anything about Port Huron, I've only been there a couple of times. Maybe if you call the chamber of Commerce there, they could give you some info. I see a really great internist, she is in southfield, which is metro detroit. Its probably a good hour from the Port Huron bridge but I'd be happy to give you her number.

Thanks for the tip! Do most US doctors take new patients without a problem? That's why I figured I'd have to go to a walk-in, over here it can take 3 years before you will get a GP or internist to see you I'd rather stay in the Port Huron area, just because I'm going alone and that's the only area I'm remotely familiar with, and I'd probably not feel very comfortable being in Detroit. However, I may change my mind if I don't have any luck finding some in Port Huron
