Friday! TGIF! What did you do to pamper yourself today?

I let hubby do the Shabbos grocery shopping and pick up my meds cause I'm not feeling great!

Great post Tina! Have a super Friday yourself!

I did pamper myself today! I went to get my eyebrows done (girl thing) and the woman did a free makeup application on me. So that was my fun for the evening!

Oh ya! I also bought a new pair of shoes. How could I forget that!

I am so ready for a weekend. Hard week! Work was challenging, got into an accident, tons of phone calls trying to find a doctor. Finally got an appointment...for August 23rd!!!Are they serious!

So yes, Happy Friday!!! A break from the rat race. Now just the usual weekend chores, but at least no alarm clocks buzzing me awake!

I couldn't believe it when she told me August. This is the only GI guy that is in network and that someone gave a recommendation for. I hate to just pick anyone off of a list of names. But I need one NOW!!

The accident wasn't serious, thank goodness. But just the aggravation of the police reports, plus the insurance companies, etc. I just know my insurance is going to go up and that's the worst part. Even though it wasn't my fault. Plus, my license expired on my birthday last month, and stupid me hadn't renewed it yet. The police were very nice and didn't give me a ticket though!

I was on my way to a training session for work, so I was late and my company paid 75 bucks for me to go to this. Oops! But it's kind of their fault because I wouldn't have had the stupid accident if they hadn't made me go to the seminar in the first place!

Thanks for your concern Tommy! I'm not hurt, and either is my car (too much)!

She never gave it to me! I think she was over stressed this week and didn't have time. So, I was off the hook about asking for the raise! I'm glad she didn't give it to me if she was stressed because I wouldn't have asked her about it because I wouldn't have wanted to add to her stress.

So, maybe next week? I'll let you know. Hopefully I won't chicken out about it because I can't live on 11 dollars an hour and the work is way more stressful and time consuming than that pay represents.

I just found out that the HR guy quit for a higher paying position and that my own manager is sending out resumes too! This place I work at is really tight (stingy) with their salaries unless your'e the Pres of the college or some higher up who decides what to pay the lower level folks. Believe me, the guy who set my salary is driving his lexus and living in his nice house!

Actually I don't think my manager is going to be much help in getting me more money. I've heard from my two co workers that she fought for a higher starting salary for my position before I was hired but was denied. Guess, I was the only fool who would accept the pay even though it required a bachelors degree! I'm such a sucker! They saw me coming!

Thanks for asking, Tina.
BTW, I recommended your lentil soup recipe to Jessica on her post looking for lentil soup recipes! I have'nt made it yet, as I am unsure about the tomatoes for me.

Also, I posted a question to you under the grain tolerated question asking if you could do brown rice or only white?

You had a tough week yourself so it's probably good that you didn't have your review.

Don't be so hard on yourself! Have you been looking for a new job? I've been looking for quite a while and my field just seems t be very competitive. But we'll both end up with better jobs one day. We have to be optimistic!

Oh ya, yes I can eat brown rice with NO trouble at all but everyone's different.

Oh Beth, you're such a nice gal, you know that? Be firm when you ask your boss for that raise. Outline your reasons for why you deserve more pay. Write it down all before you go in to see her. I hate to say this because I do care about people but forget about your boss's stress level. That's her problem. You need to do what is best for you. I know you can get that raise Beth. You're a smart gal!

Yeah, I wasn't really up for a review this week anyhow.

I was looking for a job for so long, the thought of starting that again is a bit depressing! But if we did it together, that would be cool! Although I do still worry about explaining such a short time at a job. That doesn't sit well with potential employers when they see you only stayed at a job for 3 or 4 months! Makes me a risky choice, although I was at my other jobs for 8 and 3 years!

I think my current manager would be surprised if I left. But then, she may beat me out the door! The HR guy told me it would be better to tell my manager about my unhappiness with the salary than to leave without her even knowing it was an issue. I just keep coming back to the fact that I did know the salary before accepting the position, but all I can say is that it was a mistake on my part. I was too anxious to get a new job, and took the first one that offered me one, after many rejection letters.

Would you consider changing fields? You don't seem to passionate about your current job. But maybe it's just the position and not the field itself. I know it is a competative field. My cousin has a degree in graphic arts and she is a bank teller.

What a nice thing to say!

I've only been there 2 1/2 months!! So I don't feel like I have the right to be asking for more money already when I accepted the job knowing the salary was so low. It was a mistake, as I said in a post after I read this one.

They just took out way more taxes than I calculated and my take home pay is not what I thought it would be. How do I ask for more money after only 2 1/2 months? I have been doing a little researching at other library postions similar to mine and have printed out the job descriptions and the starting pay, all of which are 2 to 3 dollars more an hour than what they started me at. So there is some evidence to support my reasoning. Only problem with bringing those in to the boss is that she'll know I was spending working time on the computer looking up and printing out other jobs! And, she'll know I'm looking around already and I don't want to create bad feelings between us. She is so cool. I don't want to jeapordize our relationship, but I NEED MORE MONEY to live!!! Don't you think 11 dollars an hour for a bachelor's degree position is low, or am I wrong?

I would ask for a raise Beth. When I first got out of school for graphics, I applied to this one job. They weren't offering me enough so I asked them if I could get a $3/hour raise in 3 months. He said yes. Just like that! And he kept his word, I got my raise and was making more in 3 months than the people that had been working there for years.

You have to be assertive Beth! People like that.

This is no joke... When I used to work at my college in the Financial AId Office I worked on the front desk (this is how I learned to deal with angry people). One of the guys who used to work with me called me "The Answer Man." So yes, Tina is right, you can always ask me and you'll get an answer. May not always be the right one but you'll get an answer

Hey, I just noticed both your names start with T's. That just struck me when I typed it.

Anyhow, Hey Tommy, Tina's offering out your services!

Tina, we used to do the same thing with my last boss. As soon as the next shift person would walk in we would tell them to stay clear of her and not say anything! It sounds sexist, but the best manager I had was a man. I much prefer working with men. Now, I work with all women. My last job was mostly women, and the job before that was like 40 women. How did I pick fields that were all women predominant? Too many hormones flying around. My male manager and coworker treated me like a queen. It was great! I miss working with men.

that you asked for this before accepting the job. I accepted the job "as it was offered". This will take them completely by surprise and will probably anger them.

Plus, I'm spineless.

Isn't this how you both wanted to spend your friday night, coaching me on to how to get a raise! Do we know how to live it up on a Friday night or what! Actually, I'm surprised I'm still conscious. I'm usually in bed by 10:30! I'm such a baby with my need for sleep!

Probably won't make you feel any better but our waiting lists for specialists are about the same. I was supposed to wait 6 months for the colonoscopy but it got pushed through earlier thanks to my gp. Do you think your gp would contact the specialists office for you and send a fax over saying he thinks you should be seen earlier?

The doctor who recommended him was my OB/Gynie, whom I've only seen once, but has been so nice to me. I love him. I thought about asking him to call the GI doc to try and get me in sooner, but I don't want to put him in an akward position or try to "fanagle" my way in. It's hard for me to ask for special treatment. Plus, I have a hard time thinking that I deserve to be pushed ahead of anyone else who may have waited 6 months too.

Isn't it crazy, Amy. We could be dead by that time. Did you have your test yet?

Nope. It's next monday (21st Feb, can't wait-not). I was quite happy to be pushed ahead because it still goes by priority. My symptoms were weight loss, anemia , constant d and possible blood so I was only put ahead of people that weren't as badly off as me. Anyone worse still goes and I think they fit you into cancellations so you're not actually pushing anyone back in the queue. And if you're as badly off as you are I think you should ask him. It doesn't put him in an uncomfortable position. That's was your OB/Gynie is for. (ps is that a gynocologist?)

And I do think I'm a pretty severe case when the pain is 24/7 and I'm really losing it emotionally because of the chronic pain and frustration over lack of treatment or even getting a correct diagnosis.

I am going to call the GI doc and get on a cancellation waiting list if they have one. Hopefully others haven't asked for the same thing or that list will be just as long!

Also, will be brave and call my OB/gynie (yes, that is a gynocologist, I guess it's an american abbreviation?) and explain the situation. I just have have a hard time asking people to do things for me.

But I was thinking, even if I wait the 6 1/2 months to see him, he's not going to do anything then anyhow. So, it will be an even longer wait for him to look over my charts and schedule any tests and come up with any conclusions. Now I'm really depressed. I just want someone to help me NOW. I need some answers now! Not all this red tape and messing around. Okay I feel better for venting, but so frustrated because I have no control over this situation.

PS. I admire you for calling and asking for what you needed. You are a priority case and I'm glad you are going to get the help you need!

I've been pushed around since I was a kid. Lucky mum used to fight for me back then but lately I've been exactly where you are. Pain 24/7, ruining my life, too scared to leave the house for fear of not being able to find a loo etc etc. Combined with no sleep (very hard between pain, attacks and kids who don't sleep) and decided that if I didn't stick up for me no-one else will. Good on you. I'm sure the gyno (aussie slang ) will be more than happy to help you out. Hopefully the cancellation list won't be too long. Ours are usually about 1/4 of the waiting time. Let me know how it goes.
