Hey Guys,

Has anyone here ever heard (or tried) a macrobiotic diet? I went to seen a gynecologist today who specializes in endometriosis (which I have been having a lot of trouble with) and he recommended that I follow a macrobiotic diet because he's found great success with people eating that way having improvements in their endometriosis symptoms. I personally think that the diet looks really extreme (and it goes against a lot of what the EFI diet encourages). Anyways, just looking for anyone's input or ideas...here's a link to some info for those who want to check it out: http://www.diet-i.com/macrobiotic-diet.htm

Thanks,
Kelly

I heard of it before, and knew it was a 'spiritual' way of eating, but did not know it limited foods other than what is not grown in your area. Like, I had heard that eating tropical fruits like Mangoes were out because they have to travel distances and lose nutrients along the way, and eating foods that are grown in your geographical area promotes a 'bonding' of sorts with the land.
Well, I read that info and it doesn't look like they provide you with alot of information.
Actually, you could follow EFI diet with it, but you would be pretty limited on what you could eat.
You would have to eat alot of brown rice, barely, and oats (all soluble) Some IBSers can't tolerate brown rice without a different soluble, but alot can. Being able to cook your vegetables are good. Turnips, pumpkin, and orange squahses are all soluble. I know I do ok with broccoli and other greens if they are cooked and eaten with soluble, you portion in some of those with the orange solubles to make up your 25%. I have no problems with lentils and soy products, some IBSers do, some don't. I do not eat fish now, but never had problems with it. In that area the diet is alot like EFI, minus the chicken. I haven't had problem with seaweed, but I don't know what you would do with it! I eat miso soup no problem and sushi, both which have seaweed. You may need to find some recipes where you could have it with a soluble fiber base. The only "banned" foods that you would miss are sweets, sugar, and spices.
To sum things up, you COULD make it work, but hte question is, do you want to? It would really limit what you eat, but if the good benefits outweight hte bad, maybe give it a try? Or would it help your case any if you incorporated *some* aspects in, like cutting out sugar and such, but not trying to fit in seaweed?
I would suggest picking up a book on the topic to find out more, and it may give insight to why certain foods may help with your condition, and why some foods may work against you.
Good luck kelly!

Hi Sweetheart. I remember that some one else brought this topic up in the last few weeks. Do a board search for previous discussions.

I thought it was an insoluble that we needed to watch out for? Can we eat it freely?
