Hi, I'm Michelle. Just wondering...besides IBS, what other afflictions do you suffer from? I am also hypoglycemic, on meds for depression and anxiety. I was always told my stomach aches were from nerves or being "high-strung". Anyone else?

Thanks for sharing. I am trying to find an on-line community that I can discuss all my physical and mental disorders. Everyone here seems very nice.

Hi and Welcome!!! Yes, Anxiety here too! Not on any medications as it's gotten much better as I get older. I'm anticipating a flight to Disney in April so hopefully I can keep it under control. (HATE FLYING).

I too was told all my life it's nerves. Yes, partly it was but as I got older I was better at pinpointing triggers. Was diagnosed at age 21. Had flexible sigmoid and colonoscopy. Showed nothing so they give you the dx of IBS. My IBS is worse at hormonal times (ovulation and period) A lot of us are that way.

You've come to the right place for information. Everyone is great and feel free to jump in anytime

I'm on Prozac, have been for about 6 years, also Klonopin for anxiety. My brother recently started taking Zoloft. Does it work for you? He was having OCD behaviors. I guess I'm a little OCD too.

Thanks, Lisa. I am flying to Daytona in March. ALONE! My boyfriend and I are going to "Bike Week". We are bikers. He is riding his bike from Connecticut and I'm meeting him down there. I am VERY nervous about flying solo! I don't travel well to begin with. Always worrying about what might go wrong. Guess that's why I'm on meds...LOL...

Welcome to the boards!

Let's see..I'm on Ritalin/Concerta for ADHD, I have an anxiety disorder, and I'm lactose intolerant. There's a few other psychological stuff in there too, but nothing med-wise.

Can you ask your doctor to give you some Xanax or something similiar just for the flight? I'm not a fan of flying either and they really help me!

My son takes Concerta for ADD also. Sometimes I wonder just how much it helps. It really decreases his appetite. How long have you been on Concerta?

Do you have any in particular that you find helpful? Perhaps someplace on-line?

Hi Aerobabe, absolutely, the tapes by Michael Mahoney are designed to specifically target IBS and are great. They are available for purchase on this site through Heathers shop. Have a look at the Hypno forum in this message board to see just how successful people are finding it, and ask away any questions.
Well worth the try! Best thing i did!
All the best
Ralph
Good luck

I have been on Concerta since 2001, so 4 years. I've found it to be helpful. How old is your son?

Hi Michelle! Welcome to the boards!

So far, physical-illness-wise, I've only been diagnosed with IBS, although I'm thinking that getting checked for fibromyalgia might not be a bad idea. I do also have generalized anxiety disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder, and I'm on medication for that.

Yeah, I've been told here and there that my anxiety was causing the IBS, most recently from a slightly misguided therapist. I did actually find that going on anti-anxiety medication helped my IBS symptoms somewhat, which didn't surprise me, as there really is a mind-gut connection. But my IBS is definitely a physical problem, and not a symptom of my anxiety disorders.

Zoloft works OK for me...I would rather be on a different one, but I'm trying to get pregnant, and Zoloft is the safest for pregnancy...

I lean towards OCD also....still working on that!

I too have OCD and was wondering if you had success with a different antidepressant before you went on zoloft.

Hey -
No, I've never been on any other anti-depressent before Zoloft...I've just heard about people that have tried so many, and what their favorites are. I also have NO sex drive with Zoloft, and I hate it. I can't go off of it though because my doctor wants me to take it for at least a year....and if I get pregnant I'll stay on it the whole pregnancy.
Sorry I can't be of more help! Maybe someone else can??

I have Fibromyalgia Syndrome, which is associated with my IBS and my migraines and headaches. I have mild asthma (just enough to make alot of forms of exercise difficult! ). And I'm depressive, though I'm currently off my Celexa.

Isn't life fun!

PS. LOADS of IBSers have depression/anxiety/OCD. My Mum's depressive with OCD as well.
