Now that the ensuite is finished we can finally decorate our bedroom and move in.
I have chosen the colours and bought the paint but can't decide which walls to paint which colours.
The paint I have bought is a dark wine colour (Dulux Moroccan Sunset 2)and a baileys colour (milky coffee- Crown Liqeur, I'll call it cream). I want to use the dark colour as an accent colour. BF wants the fireplace breast in the dark colour.
Here's the bedroom layout
The room is north facing so is pretty dark but we have decided to stay dark and keep it cosy rather than try and fail to brighten it. This worked great with our sittingroom which has the same lack of light.
Ideas are:
1. Fireplace and head of bed wine, rest cream
2. Fireplace and ensuite walls wine, rest cream
3. Fireplace wine, rest all cream, paint a feature like a square box on the head of the bed wall wine.
4. Fireplace and window wall wine, rest cream
5. open to suggestions
6. Fireplace wine, window wall cream, rest??
I have chosen a linen and cream with wine satin insert duvet cover Change of plan! Bought a wine duvet cover and cream throw and mini pillows at lunchtime!)
and curtains, they are mainly cream. Not sure about what colour curtains to go with now, reckon if the wall is wine get cream curtains and vice versa. Going back to the idea of this wall cream with wine curtains...
The carpet is going to be a straw colour.
The window frame is brown.
Do you need any more info?
HELP!
BTW Bathroom should be finally accessorised and completed ronight so i will post pictures, BF painted the ceiling last night so I just need to clean the grout and its all done. So excited!

I'm not a designer...but I like option 4 since the curtains you said are mainly cream! I would either do that, or do the fireplace wall and the wall directly to the right when you walk in.
You know the show Trading Spaces?? I did the same show but locally - called Swapping Rooms. It was so much fun and I did learn alot about painting since I did most of it!

Thanks Cara!
Being me I already changed my mind on the duvet! I went shopping at lunchtime and found a really nice wine one. So I bought it, and the pillows to match, and 2 tiny contrasting pillows in the cream colour, and a cream throw. Not bad for 30 minutes in one shop!
So now I am thinking cream at head of bed definitely.(with wine panel potentially within cream) Wine at fireplace definitely, and maybe window wall wine but I am afraid that will be too broken up with the colour and will confuse the eye.
The curtains I wanted are gone so please tie in curtain advice with colour advice now too.
You guys are the greatest!

Just to clarify quick, what color are the curtains now? Are they cream or no?
Well I agree that the bed wall should be cream now but I've had a few ideas about the others and I don't know.
1. Wine color for the fireplace wall, wall to the left when you walk in the door, and maybe the wall on the right when you walk in(the one the bed faces) and then the rest cream. That way it's not so broken up if you're worried about that.
2. Wine on the fireplace wall, on the window wall, the top wall of the ensuite (that the bed faces) and the wall to the right when you walk in the room (that the bed faces) and then cream for the rest.
3. Then maybe same as #2 but cream on window wall (I don't know what the curtains are you have)
As far as the bed wall, do you have any sconces or wall lighting going on that wall, because I was thinking that it might be neat to paint 2 strips of paint the whole lenght of the wall, but like 8 inches or a foot wide and if you had a nice sconce or something it would look nice on that, or if there are nightstands on each side of the bed you could center them on the 2 paint panels. I don'tknow how you feel about that, but I think it might be a nice feature and it would definitely help to frame the bed and with all the pretty bedding you've bought it would definitely make that a focal point.
Well I'm going to go sit on the couch for a while because I am not feeling good today, but I'll keep thinking and maybe add some more later.
Choices, choices, choices....

Oh fun, I LOVE decorating!! I would suggest that the wall on the left of the door and the small fireplace wall be wine. The rest of the walls cream. I would see if you can find wine curtains to match the duvet. If you are handy and can find a lot of material in a wine color, make your curtains and use some of the left over material to make a head board! Take a cheap piece of play wood, Home Depot will cut it to any shape/size for you. I would make it a big square ot rectangle. Cover it with quilting batting, using a staple gun. Than take you material and streatch it over and staple on the back side. You can add decorations to it, like ribbons or lace to dree it up or just leave it plan. Mount it on the wall just above the pillows of the bed!! My girlfriend did this and it looks great!! She even made matching window boxes for over the window!!

Thanks a million. I will figure this all out when I go home. The curtains are to be decided, what do you think?
I will definitely have nightstands either side of the bed with lamps on them. Have to decide what kind of light fitting will work too.
I also didn't mention that I bought twice as much cream paint as wine.
My current feeling is:
Wine duvet cover Wine fireplace wall Wine window wall so cream curtains.... wine panels of some description at head of bed. Rest cream.
I think.... 2nd in my head is Wine duvet Wine fireplace wall Wine panels on bed wall Cream window wall so wine curtains.... Rest cream.
The left wall as you come in will have the wardrobe on it and the right one will have a chest of drawers of some description.
I really want this to work, but don't want to let it go too dark and gloomy by using too much wine, or too dull and boring by using too much cream...for all my other rooms I knew exactly what I wanted immediately. Its the fireplace that is throwing me on this one I think and the fact that the room is a funny shape its harder to figure it out!
Talk later, hope you are feeling better.

Hey- here's my wacky suggestion... paint all of the walls cream and add some thick wine stripes (vertical) to the walls you want accented. Or you could add thin accent stripes of the wine color to all of the walls. It looks really nice if you hang pictures on top of the stripes- they really pop. Sounds like an awesome color combination! We really need to decorate our bedroom, but it's last on our list. I'm also stumped because I was leaning towards painting it grey and then my husband's grandma made us a quilt that's blue and a tan/gold color, and even though it's not really in my decorating taste, it's a quilt that was made by hand for us.

I think all the ideas so far sound really good, I would have suggested the first one like Brittany about having the two walls either side of the bed wine, the duvet wine and then the wall behind the bed and on the opposite of that both cream, that way the duvet and bed stand out....like michelle said a nice big chunky fabric coated wood feature would look good above it.
However, thinking about the light and all that, and as you have more cream than wine Id say maybe do all cream and then like a few people said about stripes (not ugly tartan like ones) but a thick one horizontally with maybe another running down and where they cross is cream, so its almost like a frame for hanging something in to make it stand out??? Whatever you do Im sure it'll look great, maybe everything could be cream and then you could have one feature wall...like the fireplace one so it stands out....you can add bits of the wine colour onto the other walls with accessories etc to pull it all together....oooh cant wait to see the end result!!

You have great taste! BTW, do you have your own house, or is this for an apartment? Just curiuous!
I have no sense of interior design so I'm not much help for you. My walls are bare! Really, I have no furniture or curtains, well that's basically because I have no money. This lousy job pays piddly squit! Do they have that saying in Ireland? It means it stinks!
BTW, what's the time difference in Ireland from the US? Totally off the decorating subject, but always wanted to ask!

I think I like your 1st current feeling
Wine duvet cover Wine fireplace wall Wine window wall so cream curtains.... wine panels of some description at head of bed. Rest cream.
Especially since you have much more cream paint than wine. I like the other ideas of some people to continue the stripe idea and maybe put some thin vertical strips of wine on the cream walls???? That definitely give your room a "taller" feel.
I'm feeling a little better now but now I have a lot of stuff I need to do!
What are your feelings on the room now?? I'll keep thinking
