Hi Michele,

I wanted to say that I was just reading the thread about the trouble you've been having, and I'm really sorry that you're having to go through this. I thought of something that might help (although you may have already considered this) so I wanted to mention it.

Have you ever been checked for endometriosis? It can cause a lot of fertility problems...alot of people think it will only cause problems conceiving but it can cause miscarriages too. The only way to diagnose it is through laparoscopy, so if you've never had one done you wouldn't know if you have it.

Alot of ob-gyns are really clueless in the endo department (alot like IBS), and don't even consider it as a possibility which is really very sad. Often it's not diagnosed until a woman sees a RE or a fertility specialist after years of having problems.

Anyways, I have endo myself and was told at 18 that my chances of conceiving are not good at all, and I've done a lot of research into it so if you want any info just give me a holler! Of course, if you've been checked for endo then I guess this is all a moot point.

Take care of yourself and I'm sending lots of hugs your way!

Kelly

What are the symptoms of endometerios? I have had several ultrasounds and after they did the D&C back in July for the last miscarriage, they said everything was fine. Other than the miscarriages, I really have no other problems down there. My periods are light and regular and not out of the ordinary cramping or pain.

I should be talking with my dr tomorrow and I'll ask him about it though. Thanks!

Most people with endo do have pretty heavy and painful periods and many have problems with ovarian cysts as well - so this may not be the culprit. Ask your doctor about it anyways though - If I remember correctly the test for endo is a pretty extensive one and could show alot of other useful information in the process. Good luck and keep us updated.

Hey Michele,

The symptoms of endo are really varied, alot of women will have really painful, heavy periods (so much fun), but for some reason a large chunk of women have no symptoms at all. Many women don't get diagnosed until they start TTC, and have difficulty. It wouldn't show on an ultrasound or a D&C, they have to do exploratory surgery to find it. It's a very strange disease, sometimes women can have tons of it inside them and have no pain, whereas other women can just have one or two lesions and have tons of pain. Here's an interesting blurb from the Mayo Clinic:

Pain is a common symptom of endometriosis. However, severity of pain isn't necessarily a reliable indicator of the extent of the condition. Some women with mild endometriosis have extensive pain, while others with more severe scarring may have little pain or no pain at all.

Endometriosis is sometimes mistaken for other conditions that can cause pelvic pain, such as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) or ovarian cysts. It may be confused with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), a condition that causes bouts of diarrhea, constipation and abdominal cramping. IBS can accompany endometriosis, which can complicate the diagnosis.

I hope that helps. Please be prepared if your doctor doesn't seem to know much about it, alot of doctors know scarily little about it. I know women who have gone years without a diagnosis, not to be diagnosed until they were having problems conceiving (alot were told they had IBS - go figure).

Anyways, good luck at the doctor I'll be thinking about you.

Kelly

Thanks Vicam. Very interesting! I will for sure ask about it, I have a BIG list going! If my dr doesn't seem to want to run tests and be very pro-active, I'm calling another dr for sure!
