Excuse my whining, I'm having a bummer of a night/day.

We're having quite a storm here; the wind has been howling and the rain has been pelting for hours now.

I went downstairs to heat up my tea, half-asleep. I kept hearing watery noises, but assumed they were outside. Suddenly it clicked in my head that no, that wasn't outside... I went in the bathroom, and you can imagine my horror at seeing a hole in the ceiling, and plaster and water all over the floor.

This is the leak that our shiny new roof that we (of course) paid thousands of dollars for supposedly fixed. Merry Christmas. Argh.

I could just cry. Instead I grabbed my biggest stockpots, and put them under the leaks (there's actually 2), and mopped up the floor, and Adam can deal with the rest of it when he gets home. Just yesterday I was doing some mental calculating and general reflecting, and thinking that we'd be kind of caught up on things sometime soon. I should have known better than to even THINK that kind of optimism.

Topping it off, I'll be spending today up at Adam's mom's house - yeah, the woman I got out of spending Thanksgiving with - unfortunately, that was only putting off the inevitable. We're leaving at 10am and we'll be back sometime late tonight... in between, I'll be choking on smoke and suffering through a headache from the noise.

Blah!

Hey, sorry you have to be stuck with some bummer family.

This Christmas evening, I'll be away from the house to avoid a nasty confrontation w. my toxic brother.

I hope that you can find a "good place" to go to while being with people you rather not be with...believe me I know that song.

Keep your chin up and don't let the turkeys get you down. Eat them for Thanksgiving (or breakfast on the 26th, if you know what I mean).

Now that just plain SUCKS!

Will they be able to come repair the roof soon? I hope so. It should be under contract and not cost you guys a single penny.

Try to have a great Christmas.

Big hugs to you.

Awe Casey! I know how much you were dreading going to Adam's moms house and now this. Your poor tummy (and bum I'm sure)!

Wasn't it Adam's father that did the roof?? Well, regardless, it should be under warranty so you shouldn't have to pay another dime to get this leak fixed!

Crap like this can happen when the wind and rain howl like last night. Thank heaven it wasn't anywhere else, like your bedroom for instance.

I know you're already gone, but I hope you can still enjoy the night tonight, regardless of your surroundings. Just take a deap breath and try to relax.

Love ya Casey!!! Merry Christmas sweetie!!!

Aww Casey I'm sorry to hear about the leak - what a pain! I hope you won't have to pay for the roof to be repaired.

Good luck at Adam's mom's house and I hope you can still have a Merry Christmas! Hugs!

a) roof should be under warranty and you can hold them accountable for any interior damage too due to a faulty NEW roof... b) good luck getting thorugh todya we're going somewhere with friends I doubt I'll be able to eat a thing, packing luna bar in case and figure I'll enjoy the company no matter what!

Dinner with other friends is Sushi- much better

So sorry you are dealing with all this now! Life can certainly throw some doozies at us! UGH!

As others have already said, this should be under warranty and not cost you any money. But it certainly is a stressful ordeal to have to live with temporarily. Can someone come out and look at it now even though it is the holidays, or will you need to wait until Monday? Hopefully the rain has stopped!

I hope you are able to keep your wonderful Casey sense of humor today at mom in laws, and will return to your own place with the relief that it is over for another year!

Check in with us later, Casey, and let us know how everything is going on: the visit, as well as what's happening with the roof. Is it freezing in your house too with the leaks? Oh boy.

Please let us all know how you are. We Love ya Babe!

After a good night's sleep, I'm feeling a little more positive. I'm still not exactly happy about going up to Limestone, but as you can see, we're making a much later start than originally planned. Late start = less time spent there = me thinking I can get through this ok. Power of positive thinking! I'm taking safe snacking food and a knitting project, and I'm prepared to sit in the TV room with the kids the entire time if need be.

As for the roof... when Adam got home, he went up into the attic and looked around, and guess what? The NEW roof is absolutely fine - no leaks. The ceiling that fell is in part of the house that's a newer addition (we're thinking maybe 1970s), and THAT part of the roof wasn't redone, because we were all under the impression from the realtor's information that the leak had been repaired. Obviously, the seller lied to her.

So I don't know what recourse we have, but the warranty on the new roof - if we even have one, since family did it for us, I don't know how that works - isn't going to cover it.

Anyway, for now, I'm not going to worry about it. I'm going to worry about getting through today, and then I'm going to ENJOY tomorrow - a nice lazy day in my pajamas, with lots of safe food and lots of PRESENTS!

Thanks for all the good thoughts, guys! *hugs all around*

Awww Casey! That just sucks! i would have cried if that happened to me! Good for you for keeping a good head, I freak when things like that happen.
About your Bf's mom, yikes, just thing the major holidays are only once a year, and once you get it over with you will have an excuse to avoid her for a while. It is a shame for him too, seeing how you can't pick your family!
Hope you can find a shred of fun in it, or atleast get through it with ok

Casey, so sorry to hear about the roof leak, as soon as you think you may be catching up, something ugly always seems to happen!

I understand the in-law thing, mine both smoke and so does their care taker. We went over several nights ago and there were three smoke clouds hovering in the dining room and kitchen. It smells in their house and I can't breathe, always come home and get right into the shower and scrub my whole body and hair. I have so many sinus problems and I hate it when I suffer while visiting them, one reason we dont go over much! Hope you made it through the day!

We came home from my mom's tonight in the snow. It never snows where I live, but tonight it was falling profusely! About 2 hours ago I had about 5" in my front yard, it is so beautiful! Our animals are suffering though, cows, horses, and dogs. We put the horses in the barn with extra hay and padded the dogs beds (they have kennels) with hay also. We also brought in 2 more dogs onto our back porch, they dont smell very nice! I hate to see the things we will have to face in the morning, as it is suppossed to snow all night long. We went for a moonlight walk, I stumbled several times because I am not used to walking where I cant see the ground. It was fun though, and very calming. Hope your Christmas Day is nice. Gayla
